Replace Our Student's Stolen Bikes

Donation protected
Monday afternoon the bell rang at George Middle School and the students poured out to the front of the school only to find that someone had cut the locks off five bikes and stolen them from right next to the school.

It was my first day teaching at the school and I was introduced to one of the young men who had lost his bike.  It was his 14th birthday and he did his best to just smile and not let it bother him.

But it bothers me.  Being robbed of your most precious belongings is never easy. Neither is having your birthfday ruined.  And above all, a kid should feel safe at school and this theft has left many of the kids not only worried but devalued.

George Middle is in North Portland.  Families are struggling in this neighborhood and  just running to the bike store for another bike is probably not an option.

I'm hoping that Portland, great biking city that it is, will join me in putting these five kids back on wheels.  Even if all you can afford is a spoke, chip in a couple of bucks. It will all add up!

And if you work for/own a bike shop.... How about a discount?

If we go over the amount needed for bikes the extra money will pick up some heavy duty locks and if there is even more we'll throw the kids a party or a dance to show them we love them and value them!
