Lizzie needs a new wheelchair

Hi my name is Lizzie, I was born with spina bifida, and have been wheelchair bound since birth. My parents were told I wouldn't survive more than 2 days, however I beat the odds but my battle is far from over. I have been in and out of hospital ever since. I have a twisted spine caused by scoliosis which effects my posture adding to the pressure on my back giving me chronic back pain. I have also in the last few years developed bursitis in my right shoulder making strenuous movment of my arm such as pushing myself around difficult not to mention painful.

My pain has gotten so that in the last few years I have lost most of my independence, I can no longer just jump in my car and go to the shops, and even when i am able to get there the pain I am in after only a few minutes of wheeling myself around becomes unbearable.

I have been to see many different health professionals to try and find a solution. My occupational therapist has told me that the best way to move forward is to update my wheelchair with one that has power assist. This will help with my posture relieving pressure on my back whilst making it easier to push myself around.

We have been able to get partial financing for the new chair but unfortunately we still need to find another $5,000 to make up the difference.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
