OUR MISSION
The Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa is dedicated to identifying causes and promoting prevention of learning disabilities and to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals with learning disabilities and their families by:
Encouraging effective identification and intervention,
Fostering research, and
Protecting the rights of individuals with learning disabilities under the law.
OUR VISION
All individuals with learning disabilities are empowered to thrive and to participate fully in society;
The incidence of learning disabilities is reduced by appropriate prevention practices; and
Learning disabilities are universally understood and effectively addressed.
LDA-IA has developed numerous projects and activities to fulfill our Mission and Vision statements.
Current Projects:
– Annual Conference (all stakeholders)
– Annual Recognition Awards
– Summer Academy 2016 (Students Gr. K-6) NEW Service!
– First Teacher Iowa (parent support)
– Post-secondary Scholarships (students with LD)
– Prison Project (literacy)
- Family Resources to Empower and Educate
- College credit Courses
- Scholarship Program
- Learning Disabilities Resource Manual

Past Projects:
– ICN (parent support)
– Informational Projects (pediatricians, parents, etc.)
– LINKS (parent support)
– National Advocacy Manual (advocacy)
– PROFSS (statewide parent support)
– Project Bold (literacy)
Individuals with learning disabilities (LD) are average and above in intelligence. The disability is lifelong and can impact academic learning. Individuals with LD frequently have challenges in reading, written expression, math, social and coping skills, lack of organization, impulsive and distractible behavior.
We will help. And you can, too!!!
