Shane Sigmundik Memorial Fundraiser

Aloha everyone!

On August 29th 2016, we lost one of the most vibrant souls many of us have ever been blessed with knowing.

It's safe to say we're all shocked to learn that Shane Frank Sigmundik peacefully past away in his sleep at his home in Paia, Maui, Hawaii; at the ripe age of 27.

The cause of Shane's passing is currently unknown, as we're waiting for the autopsy to be finalized.  We're expecting to find out exactly what the underlying medical issue was very soon, and are confident the particulars will be pinpointed.  It's certainly comforting to atleast know he passed at his home and close to people who loved and cared about him infinately.  Either way, his passing isn't something we can fix.  We can on the otherhand make sure that he's passed in style.

For those of you whom I haven't met- I'm sorry it has to be on such terms.  Hi, I'm Joe Blackshear; Shane's best friend of about twenty years.  I consider myself most fortunate to have been able to know and learn from Shane throughout my entire life.  Day after day.  Year after year.  For just about my whole. life.  I wouldn't be anything near the man I am today without his constant blessing and positive influence.

I'm flying to Minnesota from Maui in two days to attend Shane's ceremony, our family gatherings, and Shane's service.  I've realized quickly that all of this adds up to be very expensive for Shane's family.  Seeking out help for them at this point, on Shane and his families behalf is the least I can do, and I know many have expressed concern and interest in helping out.  Thanks.  FYI  The main services are this coming Tuesday and Wednesday in Saint Paul, MN.  I hope to see you there.

We all want Shane's passing to in part be turned into an event he'd be proud of.  At this point it's my soul objective.  I'm hoping Shane's ceremony is everything he and his family would wish for, which is what every penny donated here is going to.  Just to turn this devistation  into a less unpleasant time of remembrance and celebration.  Throughout Shane's life, he constantly celibrated the presence of the amazing people that surrounded him, and this instance shouldn't be any different.  Just because Shane's not here with us in the physical form, doesn't mean the celebration can't go on.

For the record, doing Shane this right means the world to me.  I know Shane has been with me constantly throughout these past few days and I can't imagine not doing him a proper one on this.  I hope there aren't any limitations.  If you knew Shane, you would know exactly what he would want, and that's to go out in style.  Let's return a bit of the love Shane has given us throughout all these years.

Today I cleaned out my brother Shane's room.  Before I left it for maybe the last time, I decided to pop back in and sort of give a goodbye.  Just a last word, if he was there listening maybe.  After establishing my presence in his room to show my respect, something dawned on me.  Shane was already far away from where I was earlier today in Pa'ia.  In his old room.  So If I made my peace then, he maybe wouldn't have heard me. He was already getting well accustomed to a better place. Exactly where he wanted to be.  Anyways I decided to step out of his room without much of a notion, and surprisingly felt good considering the task at hand.

Thanks for being part in making the future tasks at hand more of a celibration to remember, rather than a devistation to regret.

Aloha nui,
Joe Blackshear
