Meninas de Ouro

Hello everyone!  My name is Lindsay Adams, but I am better known as Instrutora Menina among my peers in Capoeira.  Capoeira is beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art form that incorporates self-defense, dance, acrobatics, music, and tradition.  It was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil as a movement of resistance.  While the origins of Capoeira date back to over 400 years, Capoeira has been predominantly male until the last 20 or so years.  Today, there are some amazing female capoeiristas that have worked very hard to prove themselves and the fact that a woman can be just as good of a capoeirista as a man.
In light of this, I will be hosting Meninas de Ouro - translated to Girls of Gold - an event lead by prominent women in the Capoeira community.  The goal of this event is to empower female students, celebrate women teachers, and unite all capoeiristas - regardless of gender.
Money rasied for this particular event will be used for plane tickets to fly those that will be teaching workshops, compensation for the classes these teachers will lead, an indoor facility at which the event will take place, specially printed shirts  for all that will attend, and food, which will also be provided to all that will attend.
Meninas de Ouro will take place on Saturday, November 5th.  We are graciously accepting donations up until this time.  Of course, the sooner a donation can be made the better so that costs, such as travel and space rental, can be met in advance.
As I plan this event, I am realizing more and more how special it is to me.   I am so excited to honor the female capoeiristas that have paved a path for younger students and, at the same time, to provide inspiration for these students.
