This is Raina Whitfield. Raina is 16 years old and has been playing fastball since she was 9.
Last year, her U16 fastball team, Summerland Scorch won the district championship in Sicamous BC. Here's the coverage by the Penticton Western News:

This year has been an incredible journey. Her and her U16 teammates placed Silver at the U16 Provincial Championships in Cranbrook BC. The Penticton Western News covers it here:

She was the the 2016 Summerland U16 Most Sportsmanlike, receiving a trophy from her coaches, Dave Martin and Mike Wright.
But she didn't stop there. Raina has been practicing and working all summer to sharpen her skills and improve her game. On top of 2 pitching practices per week, she also attended Jeff Korvin's Penticton Girls ICE camp.
After try-outs this August in Coquitlam, Raina has been selected to play for the Canada Futures Collegiate Showcase team, which will leave in early October and head to Georgia and Alabama, where he team will play 10 games against junior college and NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) teams.
This opportunity will give Raina a chance to play a high level of ball and get a taste of post-secondary life, as they bus from college to college and perform in front of scouts and coaches who recruit for college teams across the U.S.
There will be several back and forth trips to the coast for practices during September (fuel, accomodations, food), then flights to Atlanta, travel insurance, accomodations, meals, uniforms and more.
Exposure to this level of college coaching and the opportunity to travel and tour these colleges would be a true reward for all of the hard work and dedication Raina has shown to her sport.
