Hello, my name is Jane and my very dear friend of 20 years Renate, was recently diagnosed with stage two hormone related breast cancer. She has not yet begun treatment, which will include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Renate has been required by her doctors to have multiple tests and biopsies. In spite of working full-time as a nursing home social worker, and having commercial insurance, her insurance company requires very high copays. At this point in time the copays have been more than $1,000 and again the actual treatment hasn't started. Due to the less than wonderful healthcare system, the diagnostic facilities will not even perform the tests unless the copays have been paid up front. I have tried to help her secure additional insurance, but ufortunately because she either has a job or is not yet Medicare eligible, she is unable to qualify for any other insurance.
Renate has already been informed that the treatments will be debilitating and will require periods of time whereby she will not be able to work. Her coworkers have donated some of their sick time to assist her in the way that they can, but the time she will be out of work will exceed the time she has and therefore she willnot be getting paid for all the time she will need to take off. As we all know, mortgage, utility and credit card companies do not care about personal circumstances, their bills must be paid or houses go into foreclosure, utlities get turned off and credit card companies send creditors knocking at your door.
Renate is a deeply religious person and has always believed in "letting go and letting God." This is a phrase I have heard her say many times throughout the years. She has faced many, many adversities in her life, most of which were the cause of other people, and yet she has managed to survive and succeed. Now Renateneeds our help to conquer this devastating disease.
Fighting the disease will be hard enough, the financial devastation will be decimating. Any amount you are able to donate will be greatly appreciated.
