Dalton Nicholas "the fighter" Vevea - raising support for a healthy heart.
Hello: For those of you that don’t know me I’m Courtney Vaughan (formerly Vevea). I’m John’s sister and Stacy’s favorite Sister-in-law,(because I am currently her only sister in law).
I’d like to introduce you to my nephew. Please meet little Dalton Nicholas who was born August 25th, 2016.
He has two incredible, loving, humble parents - John and Stacy Vevea. These two are two hard working new parents who would never ask for a thing from anyone so, as strange as this feels I'M asking for your help!
Stacy and John were excited when Stacy went into labor with their first child, on the morning of August 24, 2016. The baby showed some distress during labor but recovered after contractions. Baby Dalton Nicholas born at 1:35 am on 8/25/2016 appears to be a healthy full-term baby, weighing 7 lb. 7 oz. and measuring 20 3/4” long. No previous complications in the pregnancy. Stacy had a normal delivery. Soon after Dalton was born the Doctor and Nurses noticed that Dalton was not receiving the Oxygen that he needed and heard that he had w heart murmur. Dalton was soon whisked away to the NICU where they quickly determined Dalton had a heart defect and more specifically a defect of his pulmonary artery. Dalton was quickly transported to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. Stacy opted for early discharge. John and Stacy immediately went to their son's bedside and learned from the cardiologist that the pulmonary valve was deformed. Dalton needed immediate heart catheterization to help his very enlarged and already overworked heart. Daltons heart did not do well with the procedure but on the surgeons last attempt he was able to make an opening in the valve so blood could flow to his lungs. Dalton is currently recovering from that surgery in the CardioVascular intensive care unit of UofM Children’s Hospital. These next 48 hours are critical as they are looking for his blood gases to get into normal ranges. Dalton is on a ventilator to help him breath so he will need to slowly be weaned off that. In additional to that all babies are born with a hole in their heart called the Patent Ductus that closes after the baby is born. But since Dalton’s heart has a defect the doctors gave Dalton medication to keep his hole open to allow his blood to get oxygen with the malformed valve. With an initial solution done the medical team will also allow the Patent ductus to close. This will be a slow and steady process as we need Daltons heart to work all on its own with this new Catheterization. Dalton will also need to have open heart surgery when his is older to get a new valve. Stacy and John will continue to have ongoing cardiac appointments for Dalton through out his life. To top all this off Stacy is currently unemployed and looking for employment. John has missed work for the birth of his first son.
We are on the slow road of recovery to a life a home. I am so excited for all of them and can't wait to watch him grow into a young man that will have an amazing testimony to share.
As the Sister of John and Stacy and Aunt of sweet Dalton I cannot begin to thank you enough for your continued prayer, positive thoughts, love and support! Please continue to pray and send positive thoughts for Dalton and this precious family.
While Stacy and John have great faith, love, strength and resilience, they can sure use our help now. In the midst of this I would love to give them peace of mind about the financial burden of this situation. If you are able to help in any way, it is appreciated more than you know. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
To my precious Dalton, I will pray for you always, may the Lord hold you tight, may he draw you to his heart and lead always through the dark, may his mercies and love always surround you. I love you sweet boy #toinfinityandbeyond and I can't wait to meet you.

In Him,
Courtney
