Who we are and why we care:

Established in 1997, the East Cape Guild is a Mexican registered non-profit which provides educational benefits for the students of the East Cape region. The Mexican government provides free education only through the 9th grade. The costs then become the responsibility of the family.  The cost to attend high school includes tuition, bus costs, uniforms, gym clothes and school supplies, all of which continue to rise. The largest expense is often the bus cost depending on how far the student lives from the high school. Supporting a student attending high school can cost up to $500 per student. This is a burden that many of our local families cannot afford, the average range of income for  many families is  $105 to $882 per month.

The children's story and impact to the community:

The East Cape Guild has been working over the past nineteen years to provide scholarships to help young Mexican students attend high school. In 1998 we provided support to six students, and in 2015 186 students qualified and the Guild was able to support 151 students with the cost of tuition and transportation.
The parents, despite the obvious need at first, were wary of people offering to cover some of the student’s costs.  Fast forward to today,  they are proud of their child's selection and understand  the hard work it takes for their child to achieve the necessary grades to qualify for an East Cape Guild Scholarship.  Today they proudly attend the scholarship award ceremony.

The opportunity to impact these children and their local communities is not being met.  We need your help to make a measurable and earned difference moving into the next school year.

The East Cape Guild consists entirely of volunteers and all money raised goes directly to scholarships.  To raise the necessary funds we hold several fundraising events during the year.  We are a 100% volunteer organization. To learn more visit our website: www.http://eastcapeguild.com
