The Canning family are a hard working typical family that have been dealt some very tough cards.
On the 6.12.2006 their son Kris had a life changing accident. On the 25.02.2011 Joes son Lee was murdered and just in the last 2 weeks Marion has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Marion and Joe are Kris' parents and have changed their lives so that they can look after their son in their home along with the help of carers. Marion has given up work so that she can be home with Kris as he needs 2 carers at all times and this means that Joe provides the income for the family. While DSQ provide the Cannings with some funding this only covers the cost of one carer leaaving a small amount to go towrds consumables.
Kris has a large list of medications, a trachea, a saturation monitor to monitor his oxygen and heart rate, PEG line to feed him, airvo machine to humidify his airways, an auto logic matteress to prevent Kris from developing bed sores as well as many more monitors and consumables. Not only do these items cost money to maintain but the also cost a lot to run resulting in the family recieving an electricity bill for $1500.00 plus each quater.
Marion and Joe are beautiful people that do not deserve the cards they have been dealt and now Joe is looking at the prospect of not only loosing his wife but also trying to bring in an income, help look after Chris and to maintain all the exspenses by himself. Joe is 63 years old and knows that he will not be able to keep this up for much longer.
