I am Sarah Knief and I had the extreme pleasure of working with Amanda while at LSI. It was there that I learned about their amazing family!
Kyla is a nine year old girl who lives in Johnston, Iowa. Kyla has been fighting brain cancer since 2011. She has gone through four different chemo combinations from 2011 to 2013, and none of these were successful. Kyla's tumor is inoperable, so surgery was not an option. Thankfully, radiation stopped the tumor's growth in 2014. Between 2011 and 2014, Kyla was hospitalized dozens of times. She has had countless MRI's, CT scans, x- rays, and other testing. Between 2014 and 2016, Kyla continued to see specialists for her kidney problems, her bad eyesight, hearing loss, precocious puberty, seizures, severe ADHD, and several other disorders. In July 2016, we were told that Kyla had a new brain tumor and that it was rapidly growing. Furthermore, her original tumor seemed to be bigger than just a few months before. Because all chemo options had already been tried and were unsuccessful, we were told that her doctors in Iowa City couldn't do anything more. We were sent to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, which is about six hours from our home. Kyla recently underwent a biopsy of the new tumor in Chicago to determine if this tumor is the same type as the original one. We don't know what the future will bring for her, but we do know that we want to give her the best life we can. Thank you in advance for your donation.
