What does that look like?
Doug is the former singer/guitarist of The Wrecking.
I met him as he "paid his dues" by staying in Christian buildings (ours likely being the least comfortable and worst accomodations) and with the other members of The Wrecking in their van while traveling the nation. He was giving of his talents and gifts, along with the band, to bless others.
I dubbed them "Musical Missionaries" as they gave up comfort and chose to obey the Lord to go along a hard path to get the Word out, to benefit the Kingdom of God, to reach the lost and to minister to those in need. The ministry I worked at is in Garland, TX and is named Metro Family Ministries, Inc @ the ROC. I retired in May 2016. Some of my sweetest memories and a great respect resulted for all in the Christian music industry by getting a better viewpoint as they passed through our building through the years. I never realized, before knowing these guys, how tough it is to impact our world in such a way.
Doug is now a Worship Leader at Cross Church in Maine, a public school teacher, and most importantly a loving husband and father. He is still one that gives sacrificially and blesses others.
It was no small thing for him to finally agree to let me make this page. He told me he'd "be ok" and tried to convince me that, as he had things like a loving family & church family, a job & insurance, and a God that was overseeing his care that others without all of those things deserved help more.
But, he couldn't deny that helping him did not stop the love and care others would recieve. So, in time...I won! (Doug is also a very good sport! : )
Doug has a rare, somewhat treatable form of Leukemia called HCL. Yet, it is likely to be costly financially and physically even if all goes really well and with insurance.
Our job, as his extended family of brothers and sisters with God as our Father, is to love and encourage him as best we can while we pray for him and his family.
But, I was sure that there would be others that would like to do what I long to do and that is to Bless Doug Back even financially for all he has done and for all he means to us.
Our giving and praying pleases God and hopefully will be a part of Doug's encouragement that will bring His miracles and glorify Jesus, the Great Physician ultimately in charge of his care.
All funds given will go directly to the Douglas Elder family to use as needed to fill in any financial gaps that may result, either directly or indirectly, due to his diagnosis and treatment over the long term.
It will not be even suggested that dollars will match certain dollars but that the Lord alone will know and understand the nature of the need and the provision He prompts you to send and how the family should use it.
I would love to see funding come in strongly in this new school year and before Christmas, but think it best to leave the end date open as to when we at least reach our goal...and maybe beyond!
I would be happy to post the name of each donor and amount so that Doug might be able to acknowledge your gift as well...in public or in private...as you indicate...or....
I can post the amount and a CODE NAME you give me if you'd rather not have your name mentioned. (Left hand not knowing what the right is doing? )At least you can track the amount as I send it on to the Elders and enjoy watching the process!
It is a joyful thing to be in a position to give and to encourage giving through this process and for Doug & Angie.
