Carmyn's Heart Journey

December 31, 2015  8:21PM was one of the happiest yet heartbreaking nights/moments of our lives. Since we had a perfectly healthy/happy pregnancy and delivery, we were rather shocked to find out later that night that our first born had something wrong with her heart. After she had been whisked away from us and rushed off to the NICU, we recieved a visit around 4AM from the doctors informing us of what they thought was wrong and advised us that she would need to go to UVA for fruther evaluation/treatment. As we arrived at UVA, we were informed of the devastating news, she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary atresia. Eleven days after arriving at UVA she had her first open heart surgery and spent 21 days in the hospital. While she is doing well, her first surgery was just a temporary fix. She will require additional surgeries over the years for bigger conduit/shunts to accomidate her blood flow with her growth. 

We recently found out after a CT scan  that along with her condition, she now has narrowing of her right branch pulmonary artery.  While  knowing her next open heart surgery can be at any moment, we were not expecting to hear something else was wrong and would require additional work/procedures  to get that artery open. 
While we as parents never ask for help and feel wrong doing so, we are overwhelmed with medical bills and every day expenses with a newborn. We are still paying on bills from her first surgery and with more bills soon to be coming we could use any help we can get. Even if it's just help with gas money or food expenses, any and everything will be greatly appreciated and will NOT go to waste.
