Update on Leanne - 30th November 2016

It’s hard to believe that is been 4 months since Leanne’s accident that changed her life forever.  For the past 4 months Leanne has worked incredibly hard through the pain and frustration of rehabilitation.  Leanne returned home in October and has been adjusting to life and the limitations due to her injuries.

Unfortunately Leanne’s recovery has not gone as well as she or her family had hoped and yesterday she had to have another operation to manipulate her leg that was broken.  The operation involved straightening Leanne’s leg so that it can then be put in a machine to increase the range of movement on her leg. Leanne’s leg was forced to bed to 150 degrees under anaesthetic in the hope that with rehabilitation she will be able to bend it past the 80 degrees that it has been stuck at.  Leanne’s leg is also showing signs of inflammation and rawness where the screws have been placed.  This is a painful and frustrating process for Leanne to go through after all the time spent in hospital and rehabilitation.

As you can imagine on top of all the previous medical expenses that Leanne and her family have endured along with replacing Leanne’s car so that she is able to get herself to and from medical appointments and rehabilitation has meant that the money that has previously been raised was used quickly.  This latest operation, hospital stay, future Doctor appointments and rehabilitation all come at a cost and that cost is mounting for Leanne and her family particularly with this setback.   In order for Leanne to focus on her recovery once again it is important that the financial stress and burden is eased.  Please donate where you can, no amount is too small and it all adds up and makes a direct impact to Leanne and her family.

Update on Leanne - 18th September 2016

Leanne was visited by a close friend Tanya who was in Leanne's training course at Qantas. Tanya has written the following update on Leanne:-

I was fortunate enough to spend time with Leanne on Tuesday morning.  I knew Leanne was a strong, independent and tough women I have known her for 16 years….

I initially thought “wow Leanne looks so much better than a few weeks ago” which obviously she did…but I was then shocked when I realised with the daily struggle that Leanne is faced with.  Leanne is incredibly focused on her rehabilitation and follows a very strict schedule in hospital to attend a mixture of rehabilitation sessions in the gym and then also in the hydro therapy pool.  I watched firsthand the struggle it took for her to get out of bed and have me hold her leg so that she could get upright….to then wait until her blood pressure equalised so that she could then use her walker to move to the bathroom.   I felt useless watching Leanne with this struggle and the only thing I could do to assist was to put her socks and shoes on so that she could then make the long walk assisted by her walker up to the gym to face an hour of painful and unrelenting physiotherapy.  I then witnessed Leanne come back from her hour of rehabilitation absolutely exhausted and wanting to do more exercise’s in her room…to say I admire this women is an understatement.   The damage to Leanne’s left leg is severe. I could feel on Leanne’s left leg very clearly where the steering wheel snapped her femur, crushing her surrounding muscles and ligaments, she has very little strength in this area until the muscle and ligaments regenerate.  This injury is exceptionally significant and debilitating and will take a long time to recover from.

Leanne is working at 150% to get home to Matt and the boys but it is a long, painful and determined road that she is on.

Leanne and I discussed the costs of her recovery and rehabilitation and the burden that it carries.  That is why this gofund me page is so very very important.  The money raised on this page goes to the rehabilitation for Leanne which is long lasting and expensive.  That is why this page is so very important, it makes a difference it really does.   Whatever amount you can donate goes along way, no amount is too small… So please donate where you can, share with your family and friends so that Leanne can focus on her daily recovery and get home to her family sooner, thanks Tanya.

Update on Leanne – 7th September
It is nearly 5 weeks since Leanne’s accident.  Leanne is continuing to work hard every day completing her painful rehabilitation.  Leanne was hoping to be heading home sometime next week but it looks like she has at least another couple of weeks in hospital before returning home.

Leanne is now able to use the hydrotherapy pool as part of her rehabilitation as her surgical wounds have now all healed, she is hoping this will speed her recovery along.

The massive gum tree that crushed Leanne’s car was removed this week.  It required a crane to life the seven and half tonne gum tree onto a truck before being taken away with a police escort.

The photos of the tree in daylight are truly astounding.  The sheer size and weight of the tree are incredible.

As Leanne continues to focus on her rehabilitation please keep sharing this page with your family and friends, the more shares the more support for Leanne.

An update on Leanne

Leanne is in her fourth week in hospital.  Unfortunately Leanne has suffered some setbacks with the development of a condition called “drop foot” this has slowed Leanne’s rehabilitation.  Leanne is continuing with sheer determination and doing intensive and painful rehabilitation twice a day.    Leanne has also started seeing an Occupational Therapist due to the facial paralysis that she is suffering on the right side of her face.

Leanne is nearly half way to being mobile on her own, but still has a way to go.  Further scans of Leanne’s arm and wrist will take place in three weeks to see if her arm and wrist has healed.

On behalf of Leanne thank you to everyone who has donated or shared Leanne’s Gofundme page.

Please read Leanne’s thankyou:-

"I just want to take this opportunity to thank each and every person who has sent their well wishes and supported me over the past three weeks. Whether it's been one of the hundreds of arrangements of flowers that were sent, the phone calls I've had, the visits in hospital, the cards I've received, the gifts that have been personally delivered, the meals that have been cooked for my family, the messages sent, the amazing medical staff who look after me daily, the donations that have been made or the prayers that people have said for me..,I'm forever grateful as all of these things show love and support and that's what's helping me and will continue to help me get through this traumatic time. I'm blessed to have each and every one of you in my life."

This
is my best friend Leanne Pell.
Most of you will know her as super woman "Pelly" or "Pellstar"
A beautiful wife to Matt, a mum to her two beautiful boys.  A daughter, a sister & last but not least an incredible friend to so many of us.
She is pure sunshine and brings so much love, joy & happiness to everyone she comes in contact with. As you may have seen on the news, this amazing woman miraculously survived a very large gum tree falling onto her car during the Coffs Harbour Storm on the evening of the 3rd of August 2016.
The story itself is an absolute miracle of survival, strength & divine intervention!
I have started this fund to help Leanne & her amazing husband with all the medical bills in weeks/months to come that aren't covered with health insurance ie: rehab, it will also take the pressure off her family financially if there's  loss of income over the next few months with her not working and the family needing  services to help with her recovery when she is finally allowed to go home.  A new car when she is able to drive again  and the list goes on.  This  degree of trauma  will incur many costs to her and the family over the next few months , not just financial ones,  and as we know Leanne has a very long  road to recovery ahead of her so any support she receives  will help  to go towards all of these  things.  At this stage She will be in hospital for another several weeks  for rehabilitation but may well be longer. .
We all love Leanne - let's show her how much we love & care for her. Please donate now & share this link .

Update 20th August 2016
It has been nearly three weeks since Leanne’s accident and while Leanne is recovering the list of the injuries she suffered are now known to include:-
- Broken left femur due to legs being crushed on impact
- Two broken bones in her left hand
- Two broken bones in her nose
- Facial nerve damage
- Loss of short eye sight
- Hairline fracture, muscle and ligament bruising to her left ribs
As you can imagine with a combination of injuries and trauma such as these the rehabilitation for Leanne will be slow and lengthy. Presently Doctors are estimating that Leanne has at least another 4 weeks in hospital before continuing her rehabilitation and physiotherapy at home.
Leanne, Matt and the boys need as much support as possible so please continue to share this with your family and friends and ask them to share…Every single dollar helps and goes directly to Leanne’s recovery as Leanne will be off work for a considerable amount of time. Every donation will assist Leanne in her long term recovery so that she can focus on her rehabilitation and get home to her family..
