What is Synovial Sarcoma?
To The World, Synovial Sarcoma is a soft tissue sarcoma which is a type of cancer that arises from soft tissues near the joints but can sometimes develop in the kidneys and lungs.
To me, Synovial Sarcoma is the disease that claimed the life of one of the best people I have every known.
Jerome Guce, a 29-year-old nurse by profession, loving brother, son and caring boyfriend. A once Phenom on the tennis court, angel on the microphone, and aspiring powerlifter. He fought three long years with this disease, and his life was cut short. Not because he wasn’t strong enough or that he couldn’t handle the treatments, it was because there is no CURE. There is hardly any information on this disease.
Here’s What We Know:
•Synovial Sarcoma is a very rare tumor that is seem more often in young people, usually younger than 30. There are no known risk factors. Soft tissue Sarcomas represent less than 1% of cancerous tumors and Synovial Sarcoma is even more uncommon. There is a 1 in 1 million chance of a person getting it. The tumor grows slowly and may not be noticed before causing any signs or symptoms. When symptoms do occur they can be severe.
•Treatment: The preferred treatment is surgery, but depending on the size and how aggressive the tumor, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be needed as well.
•Prognosis: It depends on how the patient responded to treatment. There is not much information on this disease, and that’s why we are here. The Guce Family and their support want to make sure no family ever has to go through what they have been through. We want to find a cure.
