A little bit about Emi Swanson:
Emi amazes us each time she steps on the ice.  When she is skating it is like she is in a second world where nothing else matters except for her blades cutting the ice.  She has learned that to become a great skater you have to want it enough.  She knows that everybody falls, but the only thing that really matters is that you get back up again, stronger than ever before and you never stop fighting for what you want to accomplish.

From that first day in October, 2008 that she stepped on the ice in Melfort until now, 9 years later …. Emi’s passion for skating has been revealed.  She loves competing but she competes only against herself.  Figure skating has had a major influence on Emi, teaching her to challenge herself and that you don’t always get what you wish for, but you get what you work for.

Emi is now 14 years old and has had the opportunity to proudly represent Saskatchewan at the 2015 Skate Canada Challenge held in Pierrefonds, Quebec and again at the 2016 Skate Canada Challenge held in Edmonton, Alberta as a Pre-Novice skater.  It is her hope to qualify once again to compete at the 2017 Challenge to be held in Pierrefonds, Quebec once again.

The new competitive season started July 29th, 2016 with the Wild Rose Competition held in Leduc, AB where Emi placed second in her Pre-Novice category.  Based on her strong performance at Wild Rose, Skate Canada-Saskatchewan named Emi to the team that will be traveling to Paris, Ontario to compete at the Isabelle Henderson Memorial Invitational September 16th – 18th.  This will be her 3rd time competing at this competition.

August 12th – 14th Emi will be competing on home turf at the Co-Operators Center in Regina at the Sask Skate Competition which has competitors from across Western Canada competing.  Afterwards the 2017 Skate Canada - Saskatchewan Sectionals will be held in Humboldt, Saskatchewan November 11th – 13th.  This is the qualifying competition for a skater to attend the 2017 Skate Canada Challenge in Pierrefonds, Quebec December 1st – 4th, Emi’s ultimate goal!

Emi practices 15-18 hours a week, is coached by two superb High Performance coaches at the COE (Center of Excellence) in Regina, works out and takes her skating seriously.  Most people do not realize the expense that goes into skating….living away from home, figure skates (equal to a mortgage payment), dresses, ice, coaching, and competition fees, travel expenses, plus more.  It all ads up!

The will to succeed is important, but the will to do what it takes is vital.   Emi HAS it!  She has the passion and the desire to represent Saskatchewan once again nationally.  Please consider donating and helping her to follow her dreams.

Thank you on behalf of Emi.  Your donation will enable her to compete at the Isabelle Henderson Memorial Competion coming up in mid-September!  It would mean the world to her to attend!
