Service Dog for Nora
Hello Friends and Family!!!
The Summer of 2016 has been quite challenging for the Chun + Martin Duarte family as you may know... It all started with a seizure at our home one fine Sunday afternoon and ended up leading to Nora undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor and now evaluating treatment options moving forward as the tumor will likely recur at some point... Pretty scary stuff!!
While Nora continues to heal from surgery and we work through this, we (her family) are working to find ways in which to support her better.
One avenue that we have found to be advantageous is by providing a service dog to support Nora, now through healing, later during treatment, and long term for seizure management and prevention as she continues to be at high risk for falls and seizures.
The process of obtaining a service dog is quite extensive, but we are lucky enough to have a dog (Sammie Girl) that met all criteria for service, and after a thorough evaluation has received approval to start an accredited training program (through Mountain High Service Dogs Inc).
This program however is amazing but quite costly, and isn’t covered by insurance. All of our wonderful friends and family have asked us, “how can we help??” and now we have an answer for that.
In addition to all the love, support, and prayers you have provided, we are asking for any donation to help us fund the training of Sammie to become Nora’s service dog. Your help will provide years of comfort, support, and companionship as Nora moves through this battle and gets healthy again.
