World Youth Championships 2017

Donation protected
My name is Nikita Mawhirt, I am 16 years of age and live in WA.  I compete in my chosen sport of Modern Pentathlon, which involves swimming, fencing, horse riding, running and shooting. People often tell me I'm crazy and I just reply with "I'm doing what I love and following my dreams." I picked up the sport in 2014 and since then, I have been hooked. It's so interesting training for 5 completely different sports, having a variety of mental and physical aspects in each means you never get bored.
In May last year, after national selection trials, I was lucky enough to be selected to represent Australia at the Asia/Oceania Modern Pentathlon Olympic Selection Trials for Rio, which were held in Beijing, in the youth event. Having the opportunity to watch world class athletes in action and experience competing at an international level was unreal and made me realise that one day, I wanted that to be me.
Following this event and a range of national events in Australia, I have been selected onto the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Development Squad for 2018. Competing at the Youth Olympics has been a dream of mine since I started this sport.
In June next year, the Youth Olympics Games Squad is heading across to Europe and spending 3 weeks in Hungary training at a world-class Modern Pentathlon Club, where the current World Champion trains.
Following the training camp, the World Youth Championships 2017 are being held in Prague and then the World Junior Championships in Hungary a week later. Travelling to Europe to partake in these opportunities would not only be an amazing journey, but would be an one in a lifetime experience and training opportunity to help me reach my ultimate goal of representing Australia at the Olympics.
I know there are thousands of causes and campaigns out there asking for people to donate to them and I wish them all the best, but I am serious about where I want to go with my sport and would be heartbroken if an opportunity like this slipped through my fingers because money prevented me from being able to go. Even if it's a gold coin donation, every little bit does help, but at the very least, I'd love for you to read my story and share it amongst your friends, so come next year, I will have the opportunity to proudly represent Australia in Europe and kick some butt.
The money raised from this campaign will be used towards my flights and living expenses in Europe, as well as competition entry. Although my family and I would love to be able to come up with this money, having a single mum supporting two teenagers in high school means this isn't possible by ourselves.
I can't put into words how thankful I would be if, with the help of yourself, I made it across to Europe. Growing up as a kid with a single Mum meant I always had to work that little bit harder to get what I wanted. Whether it be on the field, in school or at home, I never just had something given to me. Although each and everyday I am still working hard to achieve my goal, it has reached the point where money is needed for me to keep pursuing my goal of representing Australia at the Olympic Games. Every opportunity to wear the green and gold and compete for my country is an honour and invaluable experience and it would mean the absolute world to me if I could do it again at the World Championships in Europe next year.
So I am asking you if you could please read my story and share it amongst friends. Not many people know what Modern Pentathlon is or the money and work it involves. Training for 5 sports was never going to be easy, but I never regret my decision to pick up the sport and everyday look forward to when I can finally say I'm an Olympian. The hard work, sacrifice, blood and tears has all been worth it so far, but now I've reached a point where I need help to keep going, and I'm asking you. A donation, an idea for a fundraiser or just words of encouragement and wisdom. I will be grateful for anything.  So please, read my story, share amongst friends and where possible, help get me across to Europe next year so I can continue my journey of one day representing Australia at the Olympic Games.
