Plainview Baseball/Softball States
What a summer! The Plainview Little League Travel program is bursting with talented boys and girls on the diamond this summer. Never before did Plainview Little League have 4 teams in their respective District 32 Finals. Now, we find ourselves in the position where we are sending 2 teams to STATES!
Steven Riegler's 10U softball team is first out of the gate winning his Sectional Championship on Friday, July 22, 4-1 vs. Bayport-Blue Point. Congratulations to the girls and the coaches on putting together an unprecedented run so far. This team is the first ever Plainview Hawks Softball team to make it to States! The girls are in Dunkirk, NY right now representing Plainview. This is almost a 9 hour trip from Plainview (with two stops). Their States run begin this afternoon with a game in Dunkirk, NY against Haverstraw.
Also, Paul Brower's 11U Baseball repeated last year's magic by winning their Sectional Championship last evening against Smithtown/St. James with a beautifully played 3-0 win. Their quest for the State Championhsip begins on Saturday in East Greenbush, NY (about 3 hours away, outside of Albany).
So much success is great for Plainview and we are excited for all of the teams and the entire program, but most importantly for the children. Please help these teams by contributing towards the cost of the trip to the State Finals Tournament. This is a major expense for all of the families involved but its is also an opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime. No amount is too small. Spread the word and support our Plainview Hawks! By supporting these two wonderful teams we can not only assist with the many immediate expenses these teams are incurring, but we can continue to lay the foundation to be the best liitle league baseball organization on Long Island. You can follow the results of all of the games at http://www.eteamz.com/newyorkstatelittleleague/.
The boys lost a tough one to Garden City in a battle of Long Island yesterday afternoon in their opening game. Right now they are in a weather delay as they get ready to play their second game in their run to the Championship against Central Amherst later today at 5:00pm.
Last evening Dylan Banner crushed the competition in the home run derby hosted at the Championship tournament. Each of the 8 teams sent representatives to the skills event and no one put up a fight as Dylan blasted out 11 home runs. The next closest competitor hit 5.
Let's Go Hawks!!!
As a former Plainview Hawks softball family, we are so proud to see the girls advance! It's so rewarding to have all the hard work pay off--from practices and games. There's so much to learn from this game, it goes way beyond how to bunt or slide. Thanks to the coaches for all their time and effort in getting the girls this far! Go Hawks :)
