Give Finn a break!

Donation protected
When Finn became ill and was diagnosed with MDS (bone marrow failure) and AML (acute myeloid leukemia) last year, we of-course had to cancel our family holiday.  If you've followed his story since then you'll know how hard he's been fighting  - chemo & everything that comes with it, bone marrow transplant, being away from home and isolation, the loss of friends he'd made & of his beloved grandad, followed by lots of setbacks during his recovery.

To give him (and his brother and sister) something to look forward to after our family had been separated for months while Finn was in isolation in Manchester, then the tough 6 months of semi- isolation; I booked and paid for us all to go to Center parcs for a weekend in December.

Sadly Finn relapsed a few days before we were due to go and, despite everyone's best efforts, he wasn't well enough to travel and had to be re-admitted for treatment. Typical of Finn though, he was adamant that his little brother and sister shouldn't miss out and told me I had to take them, that he'd happily stay in hospital in Manchester with his dad and that I wasn't to worry about him.  We made the best of the weekend but it was heartbreaking that he wasn't with us.

I promised I'd make it up to him and would re-book for Christmas this year or Easter next year. I had planned to book Center parcs again so that he could do all the things he missed out on last year, and because at the moment he can't fly because he still has a central line.  However, since I've been off work looking after him, I wasn't able to fund the trip; so Finn's social worker kindly referred us to a charity that funds short breaks and kids activities in Center parcs (for children who have cancer) and the kids were thrilled and really looking forward to us having some precious time away together.

Unfortunately the charity is short on funds so cannot help, and although Finn says that he's not disappointed, I don't want to let him down and, especially after his latest setback, I want to give him something to look forward to - which is why I have set up this page to ask for your help.

I realise that there are many (more) deserving causes and that this is not life or death, but he's been through so much, he never complains and what he loves most in the world is us all spending time together. So if you could help in any way at all I can't tell you how grateful I would be.

Many of our family and friends have already supported us in lots of ways, including volunteering to staff donor drives to find Finn his match, and have been very generous in giving to the charities we support. Please don't think that we expect anything more from any of you.  We will never forget your kindness and generosity and wouldn't have made it this far without you.

Thank-you so much on behalf of Finn, Lucas & Seren x
