On Friday July 22, 2016 at Detroit Martin Luther Kings high school football practice , we lost an extremely influential member of the community who was an incredible loving father, husband and friend - Dale Harvel.
So many former players, coaches and supporters have kindly asked for ways to help the family in their time of need. We have set up a GoFundMe account for the Harvel family to help with the difficult journey ahead.
For 26 years Dale Harvel faithfully served the youth of Detroit as a high school coach. His coaching career was highlighted in 2015 as he led Detroit King to an undefeated season and state championship, he was also recognized as the 2015 high school coach of the year and inducted into the Michigan sports hall of fame.
Coach Harvel touched the lives of so many as he shared his love of football with thousands of Detroit youth. His former players have gone onto become Nfl draft picks, high school and college coaches, teachers, doctors and so much more.
Dale Harvel leaves behind a family that has supported him faithfully throughout his 26 years of coaching and community service. He loved his family with all his heart and leaves behind a beautiful wife Bridget and three children Bria, Imani, and DJ. It is our duty as a community to help ease the emotional and financial burden of this loss for his family. It would give him no greater peace than to know they will be taken care of.
