Beloved Horse Shot, Need to Move

$767 of $2,200 goal

Trinity horse refuge, a 501c3 organizatoin, EIN 46-2930095, has an urgent need to move. We woke up this morning to find one of our beloved horses murdered in the front pasture. Mikey was shot through the neck between 6 and 7:15 am this morning in a targeted shooting from the road.

Mikey came to us from Auction Horse Rescue. He was a special needs horse who suffered severe abuse.  He was emaciated, was missing his bottom jaw and lower teeth, had severe arthritis in his back legs, all due from a sport called tripping, Mikey was just seven years old.  Trinity has provided a safe loving home for Mikey for over two years.  His special diet of soaked cubes, grain and beet pulp worked wonders for him.  He was beautiful, funny, loving and loved food!  He never had to worry about his next meal or live in fear of being mistreated.   It was an everyday occurrence seeing him running toward you with his tongue hanging out, ready to see what goodies you were bringing him.

As our property is a corner property, we do not have a large area to keep the horses that is not accessible from the road. We urgently need to move. This is the latest in a string of livestock and pet shootings in the Oroville area. We are 20 miles from the town and did not have any reason to believe that we would be targeted. We feel violated in every sense of the word.

We have been actively looking for property for the last six months and have been unable to find anything that will house the horses and ourselves. This horrific murder makes this need to move extremely urgent. We need a safe place for the rescued horses, donkeys and goats that we take care of that we can all feel safe in.  Trinity Horse Refuge is a 501c3 organization.  EIN 46-2930095.

We have great news! We will be doing a walk through on a property on Saturday and if all goes well will be signing a lease. It has been a long road but we are thankful for all who searched for us and thankful for all the prayers that went up on our behalf. We really need your help in reaching at least half our goal to move. It is critical that we have what we need to make this move as smooth as possible for the horses and other critters that call us home. We will need to complete some fencing before we are able to move the horses. We will also need to begin working on some shelters before winter hits, and don't forget the transportation costs. The money raised will also help with the deposit for the animals. Please if everyone on our Facebook donated $5.00 dollars we would be super blessed! Please do what you can. This has been a long road and its not quite over yet. No gift is too small to make a difference. Please share to get the word out.

Thank you to all who have donated so far. Your donations not only help us reach our goal but they keep us encouraged by your generosity.

It seems that we have suffered many losses over the last year. As an organization whose main focus is senior horses we find ourselves doing a lot of hospice. It is hard for some to understand why we take in the elderly horses with special needs but it is what we are called to do. In the last year we adopted Amos, Calie Rose, Butter, Chief and Pretty Boy all who were well in their twenties and even thirties. Amos was rehabbed and offered retirement by a person who used to event him, she came across him on our site. It was a great day for Amos! Butter was 30 years young and was only with us a short time but was given everything an elderly mare could wish for. She passed due to complications of Cushing’s. Chief was a stunning paint and was also 30 years old. He passed away via a stroke. His family thought the auction was a good place to take him for his retirement. Calie Rose was one of the sweetest donkeys we have ever met. She was a little pistol and absolutely loved hugs. She greeted you at feeding time every day and pressed her forehead into your stomach. She was well into her 30’s and passed away from a fracture in her hip. Pretty Boy is Cathy’s special boy and is claimed by her. He is going strong at 24 years old, loving life and his home here at the Refuge. We also lost our sweet Jatta who was 32 years old. She forever left a big hole in our hearts. We also lost our long term resident Paw Paw from complications of an impaction and colic. Why am I telling you this? Because some things don’t get put on Facebook. We are called to care for the senior horse. Sometimes we don’t get to have them for long, but we get to make sure that their last months or years are filled with never being hungry, having the proper diet for their age, making sure that they feel at home and safe. After all isn’t that what all of us desire? Someone to love us, to care and provide for us and make sure the boogeyman is kept at bay? With all the loss that is expected when you deal with senior horses it never gets easier to say good bye. There is a lot of joy in this work when it is your heart’s desire. To watch a horse gain back its dignity and spirit, there is really nothing like it. There is also a lot of heartbreak, tears, worry and sweat that is required to do it. That is where you play an important role. We literally would not exist if it weren’t for those who stand by us and support our efforts by donating and volunteering. You are the glue that holds us together. We really would not exist if it weren’t for you. So thank you! We never want to take you for granted. We are deeply moved by your support. In this difficult time that we have to come to terms with Mikey’s tragic, violent death and the pending move that is unavoidable, your support means even more. It means that we do not walk alone. Thank you for standing with us in the good and the bad times. Please know that you are loved and appreciated. Thank you to Lynn S, Heather B., Patty M., Sharon G., Delrene S., Suzan H., Christena S., Stephanie D., Deborah S., Nancy G., Dan and Alyce L., Holly M., Lori P., Cheryl G., Shanna K., Karen G., Cheri V., Janice F., Amy P., Amy P., Haley R., Alyssa U., Laura P., Lindsey D., Linda S., Mary Jane Mc., Linda M., Rebecca T.,

I want to thank all who have donated to our fundraiser. We have looked at several properties in the last few days and are hopeful that the right one will come along soon. Thank you for your generous support in regards to this move. It has been pending for quite sometime but with Mikey's death a different kind of urgency has been added to the search. This will be our third move in the last few years and we are hoping that it will be our last. Thank you for sharing our campaign and thank you for the love you've shown for Mikey.

Those of you who know our predicament understand that we have been trying to find a place for the last six months, We were blessed by the lease holders to let us stay on board during the pending sale of the property. This incident now makes our move urgent. We have tried to find a place but most are out of our reach financially. We are hoping that by word of mouth someone will have property that we can safely house our Refuge and family on. Our fundraiser will cover the cost of first, last, deposits, transportation, fencing and the cost incurred from Mikey's accident such as body disposal and the vet. Thank you for caring about our residents. We are a 501c3 non profit organization. Our EIN number is 46-2930095
Mikey running free and happy.

I know there is property down our road in oroville I'm scared for our horses too ! There's around 10-30 acres I believe and it's a private road not sure on the price but there's no fences or buildings either.. Would be a project but there is a pasture that is closed off that could be used to house horses or cows if needed urgently

I am so sorry for your loss of Mikey, he looked like a beautiful horse! One of God's lovely creatures that didn't deserve to die like this. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I will talk to my husband and try to help in some way. I pray the police find who is doing this and throw the book, as they say, at them. I work for a vet and love all of God's creatures, and non of them ever deserve this!!! I will share this post, and hope that some of my friends can help too.
