Get Mel back on the horse!
Donation protected
Please read our updates too :-) Any further donations will go to help the life-saving work undertaken by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
On Saturday afternoon (16th) my mother in law, Mel, had a horrific riding accident requiring her to be air lifted to hospital. Although miraculously she didn't break anything, as the horse stood, it caught her neck and caused a partial tear in one of the major arteries to her head. This has lead to some damage to her brain, essentially a stroke. Although she is recovering amazingly, given its such a short time since the accident, she is still having some major word placement issues and has lost the ability to read and write.
The best thing in these early stages is Early Speech Therapy by a qualified Speech and Launguage Therapist. Sadly there is a massive shortage available through the NHS here in Darlington and the wait time is currently 13 weeks which is too long, especially for the most independent, hard-working lady I know. We are desperate to help her get back to normality, back to work and ideally back on the horse (!) should she wish.
We are crowd sourcing to try and raise the necessary funds to bring in a private SaLT to bridge the gap between now and the available NHS therapist. As most of you know, Jordans mum looks after her 6 kids as a single mum and they haven't wanted for a single thing ever. We will be pooling our resources to try and cover as much of her mortgage, food, bills etc as well as medical treatment but anything we can raise on here would be directly contributing towards her medical expenses.
Any money we didn't use from the crowd sourcing would be donated to the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Thank you everyone :-)
