Help the Tillman Family

Donation protected
Since its opening in July of 2005, Dana’s Kitchen, in Falmouth (Cape Cod), Massachusetts, has been beloved by customers who appreciate delicious food and the WARM welcome extended to them by owners/chefs Dana and Art Tillman. Anyone who walked into their beautiful café and bakery could count on a friendly greeting and delicious food. Their customers became a second family to the Tillmans, while Dana’s Kitchen became a second home to locals and regular visitors.

On July 6, 2016, tragedy struck the Tillman family when their beloved younger daughter, Gabby, took her own life. Her family bravely chose to share this terrible news with the broader community as a way of helping to reduce the stigma that so many attach to mental illness. Gabby was a beautiful, brilliant and talented young woman of 23.

Immediately following Gabby’s death, Dana and Art cancelled their catering commitments and closed their restaurant in order to grieve for their daughter. The loss of income resulting from this closure, reduced patronage due to lengthy bridge construction and road closings in the vicinity of their restaurant over the past two years and Gabby’s funeral expenses has been significant. The community of friends and customers who cherish the Tillmans and who love Dana’s Kitchen are eager for the opportunity to show their support during this most challenging time.

This GoFundMe campaign is intended to help the Tillmans regain a secure financial footing as they seek to reopen their business, bring their employees back to work and begin to rebuild their lives in the wake of their great tragedy.

Your support, in whatever amount, will be an expression of your concern for the Tillman’s well-being, both short- and long-term; it will honor the memory of a young woman whose radiant smile greeted many a patron who frequented Dana’s Kitchen; it will help those of us who ache with sorrow for the Tillmans and who wish to do something to bring them a measure of comfort.

Please share this appeal with your family, friends and contacts!

About Gabrielle “Gabby” Tillman:

Born in Detroit MI, Gabby’s drive to expand her knowledge and understanding of this world lead her to leave high school at sixteen and graduate with her bachelor's degree at twenty. She graduated with Bachelor of Arts from Bard College in Art History with a minor in Critical Race Theory. Gabby enrolled for the spring semester of 2017 at the New School for the School of Fashion at Parson's.

Gabby created prolifically and did not limit herself to a single form of artistic work. Her projects ranged from food styling, performance, film and film production, photography, sculpture, quilt-making, sewing, painting, and beyond. Her sensitivity and imagination were the foundation to her therapeutic, functional, and avant-garde approach to fashion design and life itself.

Gabby leaves her parents Arthur and Dana Tillman; her sister Jacqueline; her grandmother Beverly Salasnek; her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her dearest friends across the country.
