Ron Souva Assistance Fund

Situation: July 2015, Ron was forced to quit working due to his failing health. Jen continued to work full time.  During this time Hospice came to Ron and Jen’s home to help care for him when Jen couldn’t be.  Unfortunately, Ron now requires full-time care. There are facilities that Ron would be able to go to, but due to the heavy burden of financial costs, this is not an option.  Jen, after exhausting all other possible resources, has taken a leave of absence to care for Ron. This impossible situation has created a huge financial burden for them.

Ron's last day worked was July 20, 2015.  After many tests, Ron was diagnosed with bvFTD (Frontal Temporal Dementia) in October 2015.  This type of dementia affects the frontal lobes of the brain and affects behavior.  It is typically diagnosed in people aged 40-60.  In April 2016, Ron’s neurologist was concerned with how quickly he was progressing.  More test were conducted.  These tests determined that Ron also has ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  ALS is a motor neuron disease that affects muscles and leads to muscular deterioration.  Sometimes it leads to loss of arms and legs.  In Ron's case it is primarily affecting speech and the ability to be able to swallow.  When the two diseases are combined they cause rapid progression.  At this point, hospice is involved and is helping to keep Ron comfortable.  They believe he has just a matter of weeks left. 

 This GoFundMe Page has been created as a way to alleviate some of the financial burden Jen is dealing with.  Caring for Ron 24 hours a day, ensuring he is comfortable and receiving good care, is the top priority for Jen right now.  Jen and Ron deserve to enjoy (as much as they can) his last few weeks together without having worry about how the bills will get paid.
