Through the sadness of the loss of a pregnancy I found a group of women, truly the strongest and most amazing women I know, in an online support group. We've remained friends and watched our rainbow babies grow up together and even start Kindergarten. These women were there for me like you wouldn't believe when my son was born prematurely at only 25 weeks. It takes a village and this is what we do.
This week, one of our moms is suffering an unimaginable loss. While on vacation, her husband, Donnie, took their two children on a canoeing excursion. They did everything right, with tour guides, life jackets, etc., but tragedy struck when their canoe capsized and all three had to be pulled out of the frigid water and rushed to the hospital. Their sweet five year old girl, Danica, succumbed to hypothermia, while her four year old brother, Connor, was placed in a medically induced coma for monitoring and testing. Thankfully, and even miraculously, he is doing remarkably well and should be released from the hospital in the next few days.
One can only imagine the devastation that Toni and Donnie are working through, even as Connor's condition improves. While they celebrate his recovery, they mourn the acutely painful loss of their darling girl and plan for her funeral.
Their friends and family have joined together to support them in this time of need. Donated funds will be needed to give them a reprieve from work, as well as to assist with travel costs, food, and other necessities.
