Food and Clothing for Ecuador

Donation protected
My name is Emi Benavides. I am joined by Jose Garcia, Nicole Escobar, and Cristian Yerovi. We have come together to do what little we can to help our country in this time of need. We have all been Rotary Exchange Students. Three years ago I spent a year in Carmel, Indiana. During that year I learned a lot of good things about the United States. One of those was the passion that you all have for helping others, especially in times of trouble. As you may know by now, on April 16 Ecuador suffered a devastating 7.8 earthquake that directly affected six provinces. Hundreds were killed. Thousands were injured. Whole cities, towns and villages have been destroyed. Thousands remain homeless. And they will be for some time, especially since we keep having aftershocks.

Your sense of caring for each other became a part of me, as it has on my Rotary Exchange Student friends. Even though we are still young we can't stand by. We want to contribute, with your help, to assist the victims from the province of Esmeraldas. Esmeraldas is located four hours away from our homes here in Quito. This area has always been very poor. That fact has made the devastation worse. The residents, especially in the town of Muisne, are in dire need of food and first aid supplies.

Your donation will help us to buy emergency kits for feeding, health and hygiene. We will use 100% of the funds we raise, minus the costs and fees from GoFundMe, to buy water, food, clothes, and hygiene supplies that will be transported and distributed by the Rotaract Club to which we belong, which is Rotoract of the Rotary Club Quito "Latitud Cero”.

We have a goal to help thousands of our people. We may not be able to do that, but we need to try. With your help we will be able to help in a meaningful way. Since the aftermath of earthquakes is constantly changing, so are the needs of the people.  We will keep you updated about how your donations have been used and which things we bought and how those much needed supplies are helping.
I am sorry the top photo is so grainy.  Jose, Nicole, Cristian and Emi  wanted a photo of the worst time of the day for most people. That is in the night as they try to sleep. Daytime is not so bad, but is still horrendous, especially for the kids.

My name is Ron Carter. Emi spent a year here in Carmel where I am president of the City Council. She is a fine young person who is passionate about her country. I am pleased to be able to help her and her friends from the Quito Rotaract Club raise these funds. I have set up a bank account through The National Bank of Indianapolis as the vessel for the donations. All funds collected will be sent weekly, or more often, directly to Emi by Western Union. It is my hope you will support these great young people as generously and as quickly as possible (there was another quake today, April 22, in the 6+ range, so the need continues and is growing worse.
