July 24 UPDATE: Don't let the music die! An investment in Liam Flynn´s Ale House is an investment in Baltimore's Arts & Culture. We have worked tirelessly to help build the Station North Arts & Entertainment District and we want to keep it going.
Liam Flynn´s Ale House has been providing free access to local and international music, 5 days a week for 5 years. Even though we specialize in Scottish & Irish Cuisine & Culture, a variety of musicians have called us home from Manouche Jazz to Appalachian Old Time, Klezmer to Traditional Irish. Hosting all of these free and open music sessions has allowed for new collaborations and styles. We hope that you can help keep the music playing.
Why do we need your help now? We are locked into a Lease that has a terrible percentage rent clause. In it, the more money we make the more we owe. We built this bar from scratch in the old North Avenue Market Building. We want to stay but it is economically unfeasible at this point. Our landlords have refused to negotiate and served us with an Notice of Eviction for July 20, 2016. On July 19 we were able to stop the eviction through the generous donation and loans of our supporters. However, that was only Phase 1 of saving the Ale House.
We have been here to help build Station North since the early days, joining Joe Squared, the Wind Up Space, and Station North Arts Cafe. We helped Red Emma's Bookstore get their start and hope to keep building the area into a destination for everyone. In fact, this GoFundMe campaign was inspired by Joe Squared´s successful campaign to move into a new location here. We would love to still stay in Station North, but are also looking for something suitable in Central Baltimore.
We are the birthplace of the Sgoil Ghàidhlig Bhaile an Taigh Mhòir (Gaelic School of Baltimore) to teach Gaelic language and Baltimore Irish Trad Fest. We are a weekly practice space for the Tìr na nOg Irish dancers.
Liam Flynn´s Ale House is home to the Open Plough project, a nonprofit healthy food initiative that focuses on promoting green space, urban gardening, and nutrition classes at the local public housing building. Open Plough helps facilitate fledgling micro enterprises. For years we have hosted the Sweet Dukes Vegan Bakers in our certified kitchen. We are currently looking for more new projects to use our kitchen for a late night hours.
So we have only raised a small portion of the $50,000. We stopped the eviction and paid off the percentage rent to the Landlords. We need to raise the total money needed. There are legal fees and other lenders that need to be paid. We need to keep raising funds to survive during the lean month of August. During this crisis we lost 7 of our 15 employees. We have to rehire our whole kitchen staff at this point. This comes at the worst time of the year for us. We have to make it through until Mid-September when everyone returns from vacation.
We are loved by many and hope to keep contributing to Baltimore's unique Arts & Entertainment District. Please help us by contributing and share this campaign widely. Please spread this campaign widely for more support. It took a lot to stay open, this must not fail after massive goodwill effort. We will be doing everything we can to raise more funds.
