Hey, friends. I am Caitlin Mercer's younger sister, Erin. I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet but I would like to provide you with as much information as possible regarding Chunk and Zorro.
As far back as I can remember, Caitlin has spent a large portion of her life saving animals on death row. Twelve years ago she became a fur-parent to an English Bulldog she named Chunk, whom has since became her heart and soul.
Two years ago she rescued an abandoned pup whom she named Zorro. 
Roughly three weeks ago Caitlin was met with a neglected, malnourished dog in his senior years who had a few days left to live if nobody stepped up to save him. She took him in to provide him comfort for the short time this old boy had left-she named him Zeus.
On July 2nd, 2016, Zeus attacked Chunk. Zeus established severe puncture wounds to Chunk's leg and abdomen. Caitlin intervened and Zeus turned on Caitlin as she was trying to free Chunk from Zeus' bite. Caitlin called for Zorro for help, and Zeus began mauling Zorro. She was finally able to separate Zeus and Zorro. Caitlin rushed Chunk to the emergency vet, where they said the probability of Chunk surviving was very minimal. Ashley Sasaki, a friend and absolute Angel of Caitlin's, met her at the vet at 4am to provide payment for Chunk's (first of many) emergency services. Countless staples and drainage tubes are Chunk's lifeline right now. 
Her recovery took an awful turn and and she was readmitted with a severe internal infection from the bite wounds. The vet advised Caitlin that the best chance of Chunk surviving would be to leave her in their care so they can adequately treat and monitor the infection. As of today, the vet appears optimistic but informed Caitlin that there are still MANY extensive surgeries required in order to save Chunk's life.
Zorro has wounds to his eye that have yet to be operated on. He is wearing a real cool cone collar (that I'm sure he really loves) in order to avoid further injury until it is his turn for treatment.
On top of this catastrophe, Caitlin knew she needed to put Zeus down. He was a good old boy that was severely mistreated by someone before he found his way to sis. It was not his fault and it absolutely broke her heart to do it.
The veterinary expenses GREATLY exceed anything Caitlin was prepared to handle. We realize and understand that not everyone would go to these lengths for their animals, but we do. They are family. We, as humans, are their lifelines. They are the best friends you can ask for and if I told you that I knew anyone who loved their dogs more than my sister, I would be lying.
Thank you, Zee, for being there every step of the way with Caitlin while we are here in Michigan. We cannot express how thankful we are for you.
Our Aunt Pam has been a saving grace throughout this and has SO generously paid the vet expenses in order to even give Chunk a CHANCE of survival thus far. Without her, Caitlin would have been forced to put Chunk down. Aunt Pam, you are truly one of a kind and our gratitude is unmeasurable. WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
That being said-the expenses are continuing to pile up as the vet works to control the severe infection that may kill Chunk. The goal does not cover everything but in our hearts we cannot ask for donations to meet the actual cost. If you know my sister, she would give a stranger her last dollar if she was starving. Those dogs means the world to her and I couldn't sit back and do nothing here in Michigan while she is across the country, texting our family daily with updates, sobbing with worries, good and bad news.
