Transportation At BEA

Donation protected
Hey everyone. I'm Amber and I'm 24 years old. I am the owner of the Young Adult blog called YA Indulgences. Being involved in the book community has helped me greatly in life. It's helped with knowing more people, stress levels and the general affect that "real life" can have. Since I joined the book blogging community almost two years ago, I have wanted to go to Book Expo America. This is the first year that I'll be able to do so. This year's BEA is really convenient for me as it's in Illinois and I'm in Kansas. The distance is what makes this possible.

I have been planning on going to BEA for the past eight months at least. I've already purchased my BEA badge and Book Con pass along with my hostel room during BEA's duration. Later this week, I'll be purchasing my roundtrip Amtrak ticket to Chicago. If  it weren't for not wanting the BEA money to go to waste, I would wait to go to BEA at a later, more stable time.

My original plan had been to stay at the hotel attached to McCormick Place with friends. I''m now going to be staying at a hostel four mlles away from McCormick Place, which is a bit of an inconvenience but cheaper for me.

Unfortunately, after I purchased my BEA pass, my family has ran into a big financial issue which has been costly to try take care of. This put a big dent in the money I would be using for transportation and food during BEA. I will have some money available to me, but transportation will be my biggest expense. Even more so, more financial difficulties have been occuring this month which is making this seem more implausible to go.

Due to these family/financial issues, I've actually taken time away from my blog due to the stress from it. However, although I haven't posted much this past month, I do still want to go to BEA and especially attend the panels going on and talk to publicists. This is my main goal of going to BEA. I want to make my blog known and grow it more. I think going to BEA would help with this greatly.

Being in Chicago would be my first time being in a big city. My parents and I aren't comfortable with me taking public transportation by myself, so we're all hoping I'll be able to take a cab there every day. We feel like this could ensure my safety while being by myself. Taking cabs can get expensive really fast. I believe I won't have to take a cab back to McCormick nightly because of meeting up with friends, but I may have to, this can add up to the cost.

Because of my family's financial issues, I am making a Go Fund Me account to hopefully raise money for my cab transportation to BEA every morning. I've estimated this to be within the $16-32 dollar range depending on how heavy the traffic is.  If I raise more than my initial asking amount, that money will go towards food, which I don't think will be too costly. I am hoping to possibly stay until Sunday which would help shed extra cab fare costs on Saturday due to BookCon and having to take multiple cabs within a short period of time. I would like to also go to the Children's Book and Author breakfast, but I realize that isn't feasible at this point, as I'm just trying to get to and from McCormick everyday.

If you could donate for this, I would really appreciate it. If not, I would really appreciate good thoughts to make this work with what I have. Thanks for taking the time to read this! I'll be keeping this up until May 9th. I will leave to go to BEA on Tuesday, May 10th.
