My name is Thomas Costello and some very good friends of mine, Megan and Mike Sinclair, have received some of the worst news a parent can hear, their 9-year-old son, Adam, has brain cancer.
After 19 days of radiation treatments, Adam is doing very well. He will have two more weeks worth of treatments before he is done. Megan and Mike have decided against Chemo for now. Any and all suggestions moving forward will be welcomed as they would prefer some more natural ways to keep Adam healthy.
The tumor found and mostly removed form Adam's brain is called an Ependymoma.
Ependymoma: A central nervous system neoplasm made up of relatively undifferentiated ependymal cells. Also called medulloepithelioma. Ependymomas are usually located along, within, or next to the ventricular system.
Ependymomas are a tumor that arises from the ependyma, a tissue of the central nervous system. Usually, in pediatric cases the location is intracranial, while in adults it is spinal. The common location of intracranial ependymoma is the fourth ventricle.
Adam’s tumor is an Ependymomas (grade II): The most common of the ependymal tumors. This type can be further divided into the following subtypes, including cellular ependymomas, papillary ependymomas, clear cell ependymomas, and tancytic ependymomas.
I am trying to raise money for them to be able to seek other forms of treatment if necessary, loss of work, travel expenses, and the extra costs of what insurance may not cover. I truly cannot comprehend what they are going through, but I know they will need help as they seek for a cure to keep Adam strong and by their sides.
The money raised will be used to ease the costs of the unexpected days both Mike and Megan will have to take off of work to care for Adam, take him to appointments in Pittsburgh, Pa., which is about an hour and a half away from their home and the treatments that Adam will have to undergo in order to try and beat cancer.
I have lost many family members to cancer. My Father, brother, Aunt, and a very good friend of mine have all lost their battles with cancer. I want to help this young man win his battle. To do that we will need some help. That is why I am starting this campaign for them. They have enough to worry about without having to worry about how their basic bills will be paid as they make the difficult decisions ahead of them.
We will be very grateful to any and all who would be willing to help some people in their greatest time of need.
