Binny's trip to Praxis Academy

Fear and dream, they go hand in hand for me. I often start my life story, not with myself, but with my father because I believe in God’s master plan that started before I was even consummated. Having studied in Australia, my father learned the importance of global perspective and worldview and he wanted to give that to me. And he send me to Singapore along with my mother and sister. He stayed behind. This is only one of numerous ways he sacrificed. Our living expenses and even our tuition cost (at a private school) were all my father’s responsibilities. His choice of sending me to Singapore was a sacrificial choice and an investment. He wished that I would be able to become ‘successful’. Success, I am still yet to figure out what this means, but my father invested so that I would live a successful life. His investment of sending me to Singapore had no guarantee of success. He had fears and dreams for my life in Singapore.
His various forms of investment in my life, especially through financial means, inspired in me also a dream and a fear. My dream was to realize a impactful life where all the financial investment will be returned. Reversely, I was afraid that I would live a impact-less life. To my embarrassment, I lived my life out of fear in Singapore. I studied hard so that my life will not be wasted and I applied to colleges so that my life will not be wasted. In other words, my life was not proactive, trying to realize a dream, but inactive, trying to prevent a nightmare. However, Wheaton College freed me from fear-entangled life by providing me a dream-enabling hope through the Gospel. This institution has taught me that even my goals in life needs to be Christ-centered. As a result, I am currently dreaming to become a Christ-centered entrepreneur. However, as I tried to realize this dream, I found myself lost and fearful once again. I am in need of Praxis' guidance.
“PRAXIS ACADEMY EXISTS TO EQUIP TOP UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS PURSUING ENTREPRENEURSHIP THROUGH EXPOSURE TO SUCCESSFUL FOUNDERS ACROSS MULTIPLE SECTORS AND GEOGRAPHIES, KEY THEOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL LEARNING, AND A HIGH-CALIBER PEER COMMUNITY.” (taken from Praxis website ) and they hold annual gatherings in August for five days. In this gathering, Praxis' Annual Gathering presents “applied-learning on Faith, Culture and Startups from world class entrepreneurs and cultural thinkers”. (Taken from Praxis' Annual Gathering page ). Thanks to the grace shown by God and the Praxis team, I was able to apply and be accepted to their conference. But, I have decided that I want to attend this conference without the financial help from my father to relieve his burden in the utmost little way that I can.
On my gofundme page, I have listed USD 1245 as my fundraising goal. This cost is composition of the Praxis Academy program fee (USD 995) and my transportation cost (USD 350 estimated). I have already paid a deposit of USD 100 which makes USD 1245. All of the fund raised through this will go directly to fund my trip to California and back. If a cheaper flight turns up by any chance, the remaining fee will be lifted as an offering. From what I know, the rest of the program fee is due on the July 25, 2016 (USA Time). The time frame is short because I applied much later than the deadline, that is another story :D. So, every efforts to spread the word is very much needed!
Praxis is one of the first things that I have proactively
pursued to realize this dream to become an entrepreneur. In the simplest sense, your contribution enables me to participate in this conference, where I can learn what it means to be Christian-like entrepreneur. But, I believe that God wishes to speak to me in a powerful way through this conference. And this is why I am also in need of prayer support. Please pray that this would be another opportunity for me to encounter God.
It is obvious that my participation to this conference will not automatically turn me into an impactful, Christ-like individual. But, your contribution will give me another reason to become an impactful, Christ-like individual. Thank you for your support in advance.
