Wyatt's Dental Fund

The Accident
My nephew Wyatt Riddell was the passenger in a serious car accident back in December of 2015 . His legs were trapped in the car and it took firefighters almost 30 minutes to cut him out. He was alert and helped the firemen the entire time. He broke both femurs, shattered his jaw in 3 places, damaged a ligament in his neck and broke nearly all of his teeth.

Wyatt went into emergency surgery where doctors put metal rods in both legs. The next day they put a metal plate in his chin and wired his jaw shut. A couple days later he was up walking with help from a couple of great physical therapists and he was moved out of ICU.

Wyatt was released from the hospital and spent the next few months drinking his meals. His Christmas dinner even took a run through the blender so he could drink it. You would be surprised what you can put through the blender.

Dental Bills
As you can imagine the hospital and dental bills are out of control. The hospital bills have been covered by insurance. However, the dental bills are not covered. Wyatt lost many teeth, had to get more pulled and still has a lot more dental work ahead of him. He lost his bottom front teeth and alternating teeth on the sides (where he has top teeth there are no bottom teeth and vice versa).

He has already had root canals and crowns in some of the teeth that could be salvaged. He also had a bridge put in on his bottom front teeth. He still does not have teeth on the sides. He needs to have posts surgically implanted and then more bridges. These posts and bridges are estimated to cost at least $14,000 and could be more if additional work has to be done due to his broken jaw.

About Wyatt
Everyone knows Wyatt. No matter where we go he sees people he knows. He has always been very active playing all kinds of sports from volleyball to football to soccer. He is also very involved in church. Last summer Wyatt went on a mission to Africa.

He's is a church leader for 7th graders. He has volunteered for the special needs prom the last 2 years.

And, he just graduated from high school. Everyone was very proud to see him walk across the stage to accept his diploma just a few months after having broken legs and undergoing so many surgeries.

This is a tough situation for someone to be in, especially a young man just graduating high school with his whole life still ahead of him. I can't stand the thought of him having to go through life without all his teeth. He is a great kid who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We would all be extremely thankful for any help with the rest of his dental bills so Wyatt can put this behind him.
