I need help with medical bills. I need special prescription Orthotics because I have a skeletal defect (my right leg is longer than my left) & an L-1 Compression Fracture complicated by a supernative Gait & Benign Paradoxical Positioning Vertigo brought on by a traumatic brain injury at age 5 when the ceiling fell on my head. It was exacerbated by my TIA in 11/2007.
The orthotics cost $600 - 700 for the pair of ankle/foot orthotics. My spinalI orthotic brace costs approximately $800. I go to HSS, the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY for my spine, shoulders, vertigo, shoulders, knees, wrists and ankles/feet. As a result of kidney dialysis I developed a bone metabolic disorder, hypoparathyroidism and osteoporosis.
My mother was born with an optic nerve infection and cataracts in both eyes. I also had hemorrhages in both eyes in 2009 and inherited cataracts in both eyes. I had double cataract surgeries by my opthalmologist and laser surgery of both eyes when I had hemorrhages in both by my retinologist in 2012 -13. I need 3 pairs of Rx eyeglasses : 1. for reading ,(my Rx is stronger than OTC reading glasses), 2. for distance and 3. distance sunglasses because I am extremely light and glare sensitive and need very dark lenses. The total for my glasses are approx $ 800.
I owe $330 to the dentist, several hundred to the hospital for my open heart surgery (I inherited a bicuspid aortic valve just like my mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt which killed all of them. I had a bovine replacement last 10/21/15 at CUMC - Columbia University Medical Center. I could not have an artificial replacement because of my cataracts which gave me a 50/50% chance of developing a kidney problem which led to a bone metabolic disorder, osteoporosis and hypoparathyroidism. Charlie Rose just had his same bovine valve replaced. My valve will need replacing in 12-14 years.
I have sleep apnea, COPD from growing up in the house of the smokers resulting in chronic bronchitis & 70% lung capacity, need a kidney transplant and am losing my hair. Lastly, I travel to medical treatments 6/7 days per week. I don't drive, take AccessLink buses, NJ Transit buses & rail, NY Waterways Ferry & Shuttles MTA buses and a rare taxi up to 6 - 8 rides per day for up to 5 appointments in a single day. Kidney dialysis is 3 days per week and physical therapy & physician appointments take up the other 3 days. So my travel budget total budget is $110 - $150 per month.
I have been sick all my life and desperately need funds and hate asking. I need to move to a one floor residence because of my orthopaedic situation. Please help and I want to thank you for anything that you can give. If I am able to get better and be of aid to you, please let me know. I worked 33 years as a registered dental hygienist in specialty practices, pedo, perio and prosthetic and more than 6 years as a clinical monitor on clinical trials and 14 years as vice-president and professional meeting planner for the New Jersey Dental Hygienists' Association. I want to go to work, at something. My body is disabled but my mind is still willing and able. I want and need to work. I thank you in advance for anything you can donate.
