If you have met Christian Hosam, you have probably had a long talk with him. Maybe you spoke about activism, politics, television, or your love life. Beyonce probably came up.
If you have met Christian, you know what his mother means to him. You've probably been adjacent to one of their daily phone conversations, or seen him put off making a choice until she had weighed in. This is such a special relationship full of respect, pride, laughter, and so much love.
Christian's mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February. She has been unable to work since then. Christian has been at every doctor's visit, taken work off as needed, and helped her manage the pain every day. He is deferring his acceptance to a Master's program at UMD in order to be available to the most important person in his life.
Cheryl Hosam had a stroke on Tuesday, July 5th and is now under 24/7 palliative care. They have little time left together, following which Christian faces the piling medical costs and expensive funeral arrangements. He will also be taking over the care of Brodie and Penelope, their two dogs. All of this adds to the burden of his everyday expenses, such as food and cell phone and car payments.
This exceptional family has been through so much difficulty this year. Christian is handling the most trying months of his life with the grace and love you might expect, knowing him.
