Swimming the Extra Miles for Harvey

I am working to raise money for my dear friends Cindy and Harvey.  Harvey was diagnosed in March of 2013 with Glioblastoma Grade 4, which is the most aggressive brain tumor and brain cancer that one can be diagnosed with.  He underwent a craniotomy, resection of his tumor, 32 radiation treatments and 14 months of chemo.
He had a recurrence in August of 2015 and underwent another craniotomy and resection of the tumor. They were not able to remove all of the tumor during this procedure.  He thus began a long period of chemo - almost a year's worth.  His oncologist has stopped his chemo treatments for now being that his last MRI was stable.  The battle is exhausting for both him and for Cindy.  She left her job as a medical office manager in a physician's office so as to not bring the germs home to him with his compromised immune system.  She has been helping him in his office since that time, as well as, caring for his medical needs.

In addition to the daily struggles, they are now faced with insurmountable medical bills.  As she told me, "Not many realize that although insurance covers some of the treatments involved with cancer, they do not cover many things. His chemo alone is over $12,000 per month which only a portion is covered. The medical bills for his cancer are astronomical to continue to get him the care that he needs as well as alternative treatments. "  Throw in the cost for MRIs, medications and doctor visits....well you get the picture.

Here's where you and I come into the plan.....I have challenged myself to swim 30 miles between July 1st and August 31st.  I will swim the miles mostly in a pool but will also be swimming in a lake in the Adirondack mountains when my family and I go on vacation.  My goal is to have people sponsor me with donations of their choosing as I take on and complete the challenge.  All of the funds raised will go directly to Cindy and Harvey to help decrease their medical expenses.  I will post photos and updates so you can see how I am doing.  Swimming in the rain isn't out of the question....nor is swimming in the cool Adirondack lake....those are small obstacles to overcome compared to what these two go through daily!

I am very excited to participate in this endeavor and I feel good about the much needed help you and I will be able to provide.  Cindy and Harvey are two of the sweetest and most caring people who will drop everything to help others...now it's time to return the gesture.
