Mi chiamo Massimo Bonfatti e parlo a nome di Mondo in cammino, un’associazione italiana di volontariato che si occupa dei bambini di Chernobyl.
Hallo, my name is Massimo Bonfatti and I talk to you on behalf of the Italian nonprofit organization “Mondo in cammino” (literally “World in motion”) that deals with Chernobyl children's emergency.
Nonostante il tempo trascorso dal 26/04/1986, giorno dell’incidente, la situazione è ancora pesante nelle province dell’Ucraina coinvolte dal fallout di Chernobyl.
Despite the elapsed time from that April 26 of 1986, day of the nuclear accident, the situation is still severe for the provinces affected by the Chernobyl fallout.
In province, come quelle di Ivankov e Polesie, i bambini continuano ad ammalarsi di leucemie e tumori e oltre l’80% soffre di disturbi cardiaci.
Indeed, in provinces like Ivankov and Polesie, children are being still affected by leukemia and tumors, and over the 80 percent of them suffer from heart disease as consequence of the disaster.
La situazione è molto preoccupante perché i bambini e le loro famiglie continuano a mangiare alimenti contaminati derivati dal loro orto e dai loro animali. La povertà diffusa non permette scelte diverse.
The situation is worsened by the fact that children and their families eat contaminated radioactive food produced in their vegetable gardens or derived from bred animals fed with contaminated fodder.
In queste due province le mense scolastiche non sono più finanziate dallo Stato e le famiglie non hanno possibilità economiche per farle funzionare.
For these two provinces the state administration has stopped funding the school canteens, but the families cannot afford the costs to run them by themselves.
I bambini stanno a scuola 8 ore senza mangiare e aggravano, così, ancor di più il proprio stato di immunodeficienza.
Thus, children stay at school 8 hours without meal and so exacerbating their status of immunodeficiency.
Per contrastare l’incorporazione di radionuclidi, Mondo in cammino ha deciso di intervenire assicurando, durante tutto il periodo scolastico, un “pasto pulito” ai bambini delle scuole di Ivankov e Polesie.
To counter the incorporation of radionuclides from food, “Mondo in cammino” decided to ensure not contaminated meals at canteens to the children of Ivankov and Polesie, throughout the school year.
Il progetto di Mondo cammino sostiene tutte le spese vive per assicurare un “pasto pulito”: dagli alimenti allo stipendio per le cuoche, dall’elettricità al riscaldamento della mensa e così via.
The project of "Mondo in cammino" supports all expenses to ensure a "clean food", from proper food to the cooks' salary, including the electricity to the canteen heating and so on.
Per raggiungere l’obiettivo del “pasto pulito” per tutti i bambini di Polesie e Ivankov, Mondo in cammino ha lanciato una campagna di raccolta fondi.
To achieve the goal of "clean meal" for all the children in Polesie and Ivankov provinces, “Mondo in cammino” has launched this fundraising campaign,
I 2000 bambini delle 23 scuole delle due province rappresentano quella seconda generazione dei bambini di Chernobyl che, se non verrà posto rimedio al digiuno forzato, vedrà fortemente compromessa - nella fascia di età dai 20 ai 40 anni - le aspettative di vita.
because the 2,000 children of the 23 schools in these two provinces are the second generation of the Chernobyl children, whose life expectancy will be greatly compromised in the age group 20 to 40 years if it is not remedied to forced fasting.
Con 25 euro si assicura il pasto a scuola per un bambino per un mese; con 200 euro per un intero anno scolastico.
With €25 you can provide clean meals at school for a child for a month; with €200 meals for a whole school year.
Assicurare il "diritto al cibo" ai 2.000 Igor che vivono in queste due province ai confini della zona di esclusione di Chernobyl, significa dare maggiori speranze ad un futuro minacciato, fin da ora, da danni genetici, cardiopatie, tumori e tutta la gamma delle patologie da immunodeficienza.
Ensuring the "right to food" to the 2,000 children, that like Igor live in these two provinces on the border of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, means give more hopes to face a future that is already threatened by genetic damage, heart disease, cancer, and a whole range of immunodeficiency diseases.
Il primo obiettivo è raggiungere 50.000 euro. L'obiettivo finale per adottare tutti i 2.000 Igor è 200.000 euro
The first goal is to reach €50,000. The ultimate goal is to adopt all the 2,000 children like Igor for a total of €200,000.
