Hi, my name is Eva and I am trying to raise money for my nephew Tristen Simmons. He is an amazing 6 year old with an incredible spirit. He is a happy, respectful, motivated little man who is so giving and caring of others. Unfortunately, he was born with a heart condition. He had a coarctation of the aorta, 2 VSDs (Ventricular septal defect- due to an abnormal connection between the lower chambers of the heart ventricles) and a bicuspid aortic valve that is narrow and leaking. At 10 days old they fixed the coarctation of the aorta and sewed up one of the VSDs.
Since then he has had other surgeries and endless checkups knowing that there will be more surgeries in his future. His mommy, my sister Heidi Simmons, has worked extremely hard as a single mother to provide the medical treatments and pay expensive medical bills that are constantly coming in. She has never complained or asked for help. Instead she has given him everything in her power to give him the best life. She makes sure he eats very healthy and exercises and has the most normal life possible.
Tristen just turned 6 in May and was due for another checkup. On June 15th 2016, he went in for a routine checkup and they found a mass on his heart. They identified it as endocarditis and he was admitted immediately. He has had to see multiple specialist's (infectious disease, dermatologist, cardiologist). He is allergic to many meds which only complicated things. They implanted a PICC line that is connected to his heart and told her to take him home. She was instructed on how to give the medicine from home but they told her the last kid in this situation didn't make it because if any germs get on the PICC line, it would only take a few days to destroy his heart.
His latest diagnosis is endocarditis and he must receive IV meds at home for the next 6 weeks and be closely monitored. He gets meds every 8 hours, one every 24 hrs and then 3 different meds for his skin condition because of the allergic reactions to the meds (painful rashes all over his body). My sister has stayed by his side and taking care of him 24/7. She has used up all of her time off and maxed out her funds to care for him. She is no longer has an income, since she must provide 24hr care.
The meds alone cost $64.00 every three days. No daycares will accept him because of his condition and are not trained to properly administer his meds. His medical bills are in the thousands and for the first time, she is unable to pay and trying to sell her belongings just to pay for his meds and the household bills that will be coming in. She needs help as soon as possible!
Heidi has always been the first person to help and give all without asking for anything in return and would never think of imposing on someone or asking for help, so I am begging for help for her. We can only pray that these meds help and still there is no certainty that they will. Please, please if you could find it in your heart, any donation that you could make would mean he could get his medicine and the care he needs, we would be eternally grateful. I love this boy and my sister so much and he doesn't deserve the hand he was dealt. We need help so we can get him what he needs and not loose his home in the process. I can't express the feeling of helplessness we feel and not being able to help him more. It would mean the world to us for even just a little help. Thank you for your consideration.
