My brother Nathan, his wife Courtney and his two sons Quinn and Lucian are super hero's. They wear onsies, capes and shirts to represent their strength. Right now, while they continue to to have the strength that only a family struggling with cancer can understand, they also need prayers, love and support. I have started this on Nathan's behalf as he would never ask for help. My brother is currently battling Cancer and while we are optimistic, there are challenges beyond the true fight that are very real. My brother is having all of his teeth removed to reduce the risk of infection that could be caused by the sores from the radiation and chemotherapy on his neck and throat. He may have to have a feeding tube put in to get his body to have the nutrients it needs to battle this disease. Nathan and Courtney are excellent parents and providers for their kids. Unfortunately neither have medical benefits or LTD through work to assist them during this time. Sick leave through EI only covers 16 weeks..... We were raised by 2 of the most hard working, giving, loving people I know. We were taught that nothing in life is handed to you and you need to work for what you want. We were taught the value of hard work and determination. We were taught to be givers not takers. We were taught its better to give than receive. We were taught to be self sufficient and independent. I know these are all good things and I am grateful but I think we forgot the part that it is ok to ask for help when you NEED it...not because you can't be bothered or because you just want something but when you genuinely need it. Well I am asking for your help... I am asking for your prayers, your positive thoughts and if you are able and feel moved to do so I am asking for a donation to help ease the burden of this battle for his family. Thanks for your help and I will keep you posted on his progress.

Thank you to all who have donated and supported and prayed for Nathan and our family. We can not express in words our gratitude. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. They have cancelled the last chemo because it's not worth the risk, but they are continuing with the radiation. Nathan has lost so much weight that now they are unable to put in a feeding tube as the surgury would be too much for his body to take. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions of how to get nutrients in him please let us know. Currently he's able to keep down about a cup of chicken broth and sometimes a thin protein shake per day. He cant have anything thick as it sticks to the sores in his throat and makes him gag. As much as cancer was the disease, the fear now is the weakness caused by basically starving. If you can call, text or email any suggestions my contact numbers are 2892370199 or sbshepley@hotmail.com thanks again for your continued support

Dear Cancer,
I hate you! I hate what you put millions of people through everyday. I hate that you have taken so much from so many. I hate that you continue to take from the people I love most in this world. Nathan is sick...really sick but I know he will kick you down and beat you, but it's not just him you hurt. You continue to hurt His wife, children, sisters, father, neices, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his friends. I hate that you have so much power to affect so many, some who will never be the same. The scars you leave behind on our bodies and on our hearts are painful reminders of the fight we had. Some we win an others we lost. My heart brakes for Quinn today. I remember when my mum was sick how helpless I felt, angry, scared, powerless. Quinn is having one of those days today and I hate you for it...just thought you should know.

Weight loss is up to 32 lbs and they May have to cancel his chemo as he just isn't bouncing back as expected... Don't get me wrong he kicking cancers butt like the superhero we all know he is however some extra attention from the man upstairs never hurt anyone.

My brother in laws brother brought over a toy to show the boys and Nathan... Fitting I think :) the boys in the bat mobile!

From Rachel

With the graciousness and generosity the Kingsville Charitable Neighbourhood Alliance is known for, they have kindly offered to match any donations made to Nathan's GoFundMe page up to $5000.00. Once again, as a family, we find ourselves in awe of the compassion and heart of the people who surround us. We do not always feel strong, but standing on the shoulders of giants is certainly giving us the hope and strength we need to fight this battle alongside Nathan, who is currently, by the way, kicking cancer's ass.
