Help Bev Get Well

Hello Everyone,

Our daughter Beverly, age 21, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in September 2015 for which she received 6 months of ABVD Chemotherapy treatment. Towards the end of her treatment, she developed Bleomycin Lung Toxicity (which a very small percentage of patients develop) and her last PET Scan results were unfortunate, her cancer is recurring (active) which is a very serious situation to be in the first year (1% of patients go through this).

After consultations with oncologists who specialize in Lymphoma at Inova-Fairfax, Georgetown, and John Hopkins Hospitals, and listening to the different treatments given to patients in the same situation, they all agreed with my daughter’s oncologist and came up with a treatment plan.

The plan is for Beverly to undergo two different treatments in order to be healthy again. The first will be an intensive round of ICE Chemotherapy (for three consecutive days every two weeks) which will help bring her cancer into remission. Once on remission, she will immediately undergo the second treatment, a Stem Cell Transplant (to take place at Johns Hopkins Hospital) that will take 4-6 weeks. During this process, she is required to live near the Hospital campus for close monitoring and daily testing to make sure the transplant is going according to plan.

Due to the intensity of both treatments, all oncologists strongly advised Beverly to freeze her eggs before these treatments because she will have zero percent chance to become pregnant in the future.

Our Health Insurance covered the first Chemo treatment and part of her hospitalizations, and will cover the next Chemo. However, hospital bills, the Fertility Treatment, travel and housing expenses during the Transplant phase are not covered.  We, as a family, have made this "gofundme" page as a plea for help since we will not be able to do this on our own. All of you have been a huge part of the strength and support that carries us through this journey.

We ask you first and foremost to pray for all of us, but also to pass along this information to friends and family that are able to help us. You know that family means the world to us, and with your help we know that we will be able to meet our financial needs and help Beverly get well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from the Ochoa family!
