Funds for the Athens Refugee Camps

I can't really express the heartfelt gratitude I have towards everyone that has donated to , and help spread the word about, this campaign. We've raised £2,000 in 14 days and had nearly 300 shares on social media.

We've raised enough money so far to hit my (arbitrary) goal of paying for two kitchens to be set up and providing enough food to feed 100 people for 20 days.

If you are able to , please do still donate or spread the word. The situation on the ground is extreme enough that every little bit helps.

We've hit our goal - thank you. If we can go beyond it, that would be the most delicious cherry on top of the most amazing cake ever.

This July I am going to walk from Porto to Santiago de Compostela, following the Portuguese Route of the Camino de Santiago, a 200 mile journey that'll take two weeks.

I’m doing this as an attempt to raise funds, as at the end of August I’ll be going to Athens to help in the refugee camps, where resources are woefully lacking.  Compared to Calais, NGO and volunteer presence there is minimal, and the situation on the ground is difficult enough that what might seem like a paltry sum to us – please, even £1 will help – will make a difference.  To put this into context, £50 - £60 will feed 100 people for a day. £500 will cover the cost of setting up a kitchen to feed people.Please consider donating the cost of tomorrow's cup of coffee.

But what's needed even more than your money is your time.  Almost all of the relief effort has been run by Athens’ anarchist squats, individuals, or able refugees themselves– they’ve done it with no or little official support, and they’re spent and exhausted.  Please consider whether you have any time to give.  The most valuable skill you can provide is your willingness to work. 

I’d love to build a team to get on the ground and volunteer – I’ve found a Farsi speaker who can come, and finding an Arabic speaker would be amazing.  I’m currently planning on going 23rd – 31st August, returning to work Swordpunk and heading out again the following week.
