Help Jani Beat Breast Cancer!

Donation protected
On May 4, 2016, I found out that my big sister, Jani, was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was very hard news for my family to hear and we are still learning more about her diagnosis and treatment plan. Her prognosis is very bright and we have no doubt she will come through this fight stronger than ever. However, the next couple years will definitely be a challenge for her – physically, emotionally and financially.

Jani has already undergone a bilateral (double) mastectomy on June 2 (she is still recovering from this surgery and will not be able to go back to work until mid-July as she encountered unexpected complications during the procedure). The medical treatment plan for her cancer, which may include chemotherapy, radiation or other treatments, will be determined based on the findings from her mastectomy (we’ll get that news in a couple weeks).  She will also have breast reconstruction surgery later this year.

The emotional and financial burden of surviving breast cancer is a challenge at any stage of life, but at only 36 years old it somehow seems even more unreal that Jani is going through this right now.  Only 1.44% of breast cancer patients are under 40.

Most of you know about her amazing daughter, Reign. For those of you who don't, a photo of her and Jani is below... a 6 year old firecracker who kicks Autism's butt every day. Jani is a proud single mama to her, especially during her Kindergarten graduation last week!

Jani has a zest for life and is always making people laugh.  She’s adventurous, incredibly hard-working and her positivity is contagious.  We’re hoping to raise some funds to pay her medical bills that continue to add up and we’re reaching out to our amazing family, friends and community to help.  Any donation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to Jani during the next couple years.

Below are some examples of what the funds raised through this site will be used for:

-Surgery
-Reconstruction
-Medical treatment costs (chemo, radiation and other medications)
-Bills and expenses that will add up while Jani is out of work

Any funds collected that Jani does not end up needing to cover the costs mentioned above will be donated to organizations that help the other women and men bravely battling cancer around the country.
