About me:
Dr. Mohamed Salih Hassan is one of the most remarkable Sudanese in the U.S. He has two Masters degrees in Materials Science and Cybernetics Systems from San Jose State University, abd a Ph.D. in the combined fields of Materials Science (physics of solids), metallurgy, and Applied Earth Sciences, from Stanford University. He worked in the semiconductors industry for 18 years in seven different companies. He was a research consultant for G.E. Corporation in plasma. He left all of that and went back to Sudan after Nimeiry's fall to teach at the University of Khartoum, while at the same time formed a company to build personal computers for the first time in the Sudan. After the military coup in 1989, he went back to the U.S. and taught at Sacramento State University, Electrical Engineering Department. His vision began to fail gradually due to glaucoma until in 2003, he became completely blind. He then resigned from his position and retired. His income now is only Social Security. A surgical team in India can restore his vision using stem cell therapy. The cost for the operation and travel for him and his wife is about 35 thousand dollars. He will need about 28 thousand dollars.
