On April 14, 2016, my sister was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center emergency department - due to severe pain, which she'd mistaken for a pulled muscle. To our dismay, within a 2 hour window, doctors began to notify her that MRI's, X-RAY's, and ultrasounds, had instead found her body riddled with stage 4 breast cancer. Stage 4 is the worst, and final stage; and pertains to how far the cancer has metastasized (or spread). In her case, this includes her lymph nodes, lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, spine, bone, and bone marrow. Due to how advanced her cancer is, she's being told without treatment her prognosis is grim: around 6 months.. but, anyone who has ever met my sister knows how determined and strong willed she is. She's a mom before anything else, and because of this she will fight until the bitter end.
This brings us to "the problem, inside of the problem." Being a single mother of 3, a full-time student, and the sole "bread-winner," seeing the financial impact after only 1 week - is frightening. The emotional strain is ample, and the added stresses from medical expenses, feeding the children, (especially while at the hospital) on top of every day bills, is wearing on her.
My sister is always the first to lend a helping hand, but now she needs help. I am asking for all of the help we can get taking some of the burden and stress off of her.
