Marty Altman's Kryptonite Tour

(added on crossing the goal amount, original posting below)

I'm at once both humbled and amazed by the overwhelming show of support demonstrated in this exercise. That family, friends, colleagues, and many former students would take the time and trouble to donate is touching. And incredibly helpful.

That some folks whom I've never met would also chip in, including parents of former students and some simply out of the blue, is nothing short of astonishing.

We will use the funds donated here to help with medical expenses, such as co-pays and things not covered by insurance, as well as travel expenses. We're not sure how long we'll be at MD Anderson in Houston, but this will certainly help with some of the logistical concerns.

Please know that Sam and I are extremely grateful to all of you for all the help. And a special shout-out to our dear friend Tina for setting this page up and getting the ball rolling.

Thanks again,
Sam and Marty

(original posting)

For a year Marty has endured chemo, radiation, crazy side effects, surgeries and everything Georgia could throw at his @ss cancer. (His term, oddly, mine too.)  Two months ago all looked clear. As of this month, however, when the chemo stopped - the cancer grew back.

The tumor council (I'm not actually making light of that - they really are called that)  met and has decided that Marty is not human and needs kryptonite that is only available in Houston.

We don't know if he'll stay there or be able to bring the kryptonite back to Georgia, need more surgery while there or what the exact details are.

What we do know is that anything that involves going to Houston for the unknown is outside of the scope of what has been a fine line in keeping everything together. Hotels, travel bills, etc.

If you know Marty - you know that it is not an easy thing for him to approve this gofundme page.  Every little bit will help him and Sam get through this next adventure.

The last thing he wants to be is a soppy, poster child. That doesn't mean a little bit of help from us isn't needed - and will be VERY appreciated.  We're very confident this round of kryptonite will get this last bit of cancer gone. He's very healthy (compared to what he's been this past year). We were all shocked when he went in for the final release papers the other week (he was feeling so strong and alert) to get the news that the cancer had returned.

If you don't have funds to give, cards and well wishes would be the best thing ever.  Send to:
