Help Roxanne fight cancer

Chondrosarcoma...a word unknown to 45 year old, mother of 3, Roxanne Krautack-Scheuer, prior to seeing her primary physician for pain in her thigh, causing inability to walk.

Roxanne has been diagnosed with an extremely rare bone cancer, described by the oncologist as "one-in-a-million", and cannot be treated with chemotherapy and/or radiation. This type of cancer begins in the cartilage cells and spreads to surrounding tissue affecting bone and joints, where it grows. Roxanne's particular very large, painful tumor is growing in her acetabulum joint, which connects the hip bone and pelvic bone. This causes pain to radiate down the femur.

Because this type of sarcoma is so rare and because chemotherapy and radiation are not a treatment option, the cancer affected hip and pelvic bones and joint extending into her femur have to be surgically removed and replaced and reconstructed with a prosthesis; a 12 hour surgery.

Roxanne researched her rare diagnosis for weeks, which miraculously led her to a sarcoma orthopedic surgeon/professor with extensive expertise with this rare sarcoma and is renown for saving limbs throughout the country and abroad.  Roxanne e-mailed his office in Hackensack, New Jersey with her diagnosis praying he would be able to see her.  It was a wonderful moment when he responded to her plea and her & her family members were on their way driving a 6 hour drive to Hackensack, New Jersey, leaving at 3am for an 11am appointment.  As her mother describes, "Our tears flowed as he explained the complicated surgery, the hospital stay, and rehab time frame."  Roxanne has now become almost bedridden and was thinking she may never walk or work again~however, this spectacular surgeon has told her SHE WILL!

So now with her story being told we must now make this surgery happen as soon as possible! However, she faces many challenges...medical expenses, this surgeon is out-of-network with Roxanne's insurance carrier, and although she does not know the exact cost of the operation, she will be financially responsible for a good portion of it.  In addition to this, we have to incorporate travel expenses to Hackensack, lodging expenses during the actual surgery, and the lengthy rehab process.

Roxanne has a long tough road ahead of her, but with her positive mindset and outlook and by the grace of God we have faith she will beat this! We all sincerely thank you for your continued support, encouragement, prayers, and contributions!!
