WHY I CARE about HamiltonPAWS.ca:
My best friend as a child - Pumpkin, each of the beloved cat family members since and the families with animal family members - all of us deserve options in times of need!
I often imagined how my life would have been without his positive influence that is beyond what anyone could understand completely because it's my story. As I became a social worker and my love for animals continued along with my passion for access.
I am one of the co-founders of HamiltonPAWS (2010) and continue to be heavily involved in all areas.
We are 100% currently donation based (of course seeking funding and sustainability) after having received past Federal fundering in part through Service Canada. Various cities want to emulate what we do and we are consistenly in a waitlist/full state as our program is so unique, effective, needed, and under-resourded.
Please take a moment to read about us, perhaps learn something new about services (or lack thereof) in your community for those with animals when the WHOLE family is in need :)

Our Vision:
As an inspired and innovative collaboration, we will change lives by leading the advancement of a community where no one has to choose between accessing essential services to stabilize their housing, health, or pet ownership.
Our Values:
We believe that regardless of financial status, everyone has the right to choose to have an animal companion
We believe no one should have to refuse essential services, such as emergency housing or medical care, because there are no options to shelter and provide ongoing care for their animal companion
We are committed to being effective community partners, seeking out opportunities to advocate, educate and improve access to essential services for people and their animal companions

In the 6 years I have directly worked with the families and individuals with their animals companions and beloved family additions...each of them has asserted that they would not giet through without the animals, the hope, motivation, to get through this awful time, the great times etc. Having the animals I have observed and experienced can enourage some of us to move forward when we are struggling and to help us with practical social connection and community and belonging.
