Kachere Wheelchair Basketball

I am raising money to refurbish the only wheelchair basketball court in Malawi.
It is hard to underestimate the importance of such a facility in a country like this. Imagine being disabled and living in a village with only rutted rocky paths, no support network, few if any opportunities, public transport costing triple what others pay (wheelchair, helper...)
Basketball sessions provide a unique opportunity for wheelchair users to socialise, develop skills and take an active part in a society where they are so often reduced to begging.
The court is at Kachere Rehabilitation Centre, the only adult rehab centre in Malawi which, despite limited resources, provides free treatment in its 40 bedded unit.
Over the last years wheelchair basketball has grown hugely in popularity - hence the need to refurbish the court. The money raised will be split between that and the Occupational Therapy department which supports those individuals still at the centre.
I am planning to summit Sapitwa, the highest peak of Malawi in a few weeks time. This will be no mean feat, the very name means "do not venture here".
Any donations towards this great cause would be very much appreciated and will make the climb a lot easier. As a statement of intent (training!) I am going to run 10 kilometers with the Blantyre Hash House Harriers this weekend.
In return for your generosity I can promise years of happiness from the users of this court.
