Help Rescue our Rescue Shelter

FRIENDS FOREVER HUMANE SOCIETY (FFHS) is a not-for-profit companion animal rescue shelter. We are privately funded, receiving no tax dollars from the city, county, state or federal levels. We are only able to exist and to place our rescue animals into loving homes due to money we raise through the generous loving hearts of concerned citizens, businesses, organizations, memberships and fundraisers.
Founded in 1953, FFHS moved to its current location at 966 Rudy Road, Freeport, Illinois on December 16, 2000. We are a no-kill shelter and as such, only in rare circumstances will FFHS refer an animal to a Veterinary Office for euthanasia for humane reasons. FFHS has placed over 10,000 animals into responsible, loving homes; all our animals have been spayed or neutered, thus preventing births of tens of thousands more.
We would greatly appreciate your donations to support our general operational costs to help keep our Shelter going. While due to economic conditions, donations are down, our funds are being called upon more and more not only due to the natural aging of our Shelter and its’ grounds, but also due to our rescue efforts .
Needs for replacement, repairs and maintenance of shelter property due to natural aging include but are not limited to lighting, parking resurfacing, kennels, cement work, flooring, painting, extra housing for our animals, dog park upkeep, extra employee hours due to extraordinary rescue matters and general needs including medical attention for the animals we nurture and house. Becoming known for our dedication to animals in need, FFHS has been called on from time to time to assist in extraordinary conditions, which put increased burdens on our staff, our payroll as well as veterinary and housing costs. For example, most recently, we received a distress call from an out of state caller, whose elderly relative was found deceased in a northern Illinois home with numerous cats needing rescue. The caller contacted Friends Forever, concerned for the cats inside, fearing the home may be demolished due to its condition. With permission, FFHS immediately responded and rescued 11 cats over two days, with two about to give birth.
