Sexual Abuse Victim of Kevin Lynch

Donation protected
We are male victims and survivors of sexual abuse at the hands of Kevin Lynch as adolescents in Brisbane during the period 1970’s – 1997.

The perpetrator Kevin Lynch is at the centre of case study 34,  Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses of Child Sexual Abuse.

Over 100 victims are involved.

Despite the November 2015 case study hearing, many victims believe the Royal Commissions handling of the case has not gone far enough.

The perpetrator was a student counsellor at Brisbane Grammar School and then St Paul’s School. He was charged on 22 January 1997 and died the following day. Victims were denied an opportunity for justice to be served from a court appearance in 1997. For many victims there has not been any final closure with many unanswered questions still remaining.

Apart from very modest settlements for most victims in the period 2001-2003 during mediation, little long term financial support has been offered to victims in order to rebuilt such shattered lives. Feelings of injustice, institutional cover-ups and longer term helplessness manifests itself into acute mental health problems including alcoholism, sexual dis-function, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and for some criminal convictions. Consequently many victims have suffered long term unemployment, loss of earning potential, family and relationship breakdowns and social isolation, just to name but a few of the social problems caused by the sexual abuse.

A number of victims have committed suicide and this in itself has negative impacts for surviving victims in how they may perceive themselves, their family and relate to the world around them.

The silence has to be broken. Male victims of sexual abuse in particular are themselves less likely to talk to others. Therefore to have any chance of rehabilitation and not simply become another failed statistic, greater community support is needed in order to secure the optimal level of funding for victims of sexual abuse in case study 34 to live fulfilling future lives.

Victims in case study 34 seek community financial support.  Financial support is required for legal support in compelling the Royal Commission to convene a second hearing for further testimony to be given by those who have not yet been called in case study 34. Such a hearing is needed, as so far since the November 2015 Royal Commission hearing in case study 34, Brisbane Grammar School have refused to consider any further financial support to the victims. This is despite Howard Stack, as Chairman of Brisbane Grammar School Board of Trustees in written testimony tendered to the Royal Commission acknowledging a single victim was paid an agreed settlement sum of $1/2 million in late 2014. However most victims received only a fraction of this sum during the early 2000’s period of mediation. The Royal Commission has not ascertained exactly why such a larger single settlement was agreed with one victim by the school and not all victims. It should be noted such a large settlement was at a time Brisbane Grammar knew in 2014 they would be held up to public scrutiny by the Royal Commission.

Victims will petition public support for the Royal Commission to call certain named individuals to give further testimony under oath in case study 34 via the platform www.change.org

Victims have little to give apart from their own love and eternal thanks in anticipation to all those who may financially contribute towards the victims search for both justice and long term rehabilitation and future wellbeing.
